Processional Hymn Once in Royal David’s CityCongregation stands and sings when directed.

Youth: Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.Choir: He came down to earth from heaven who is God and Lord of all, And his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall. With the poor, oppressed, and lowly, lived on earth our Savior holy. Jesus is our childhood’s pattern, day by day like us he grew; He was little, weak and helpless, tears and smiles like us he knew; And he feels for all our sadness, and he shares in all our gladness.*All: And our eyes at last shall see him, through his own redeeming love, For that child so dear and gentle is our Lord in heaven above; And he leads his children on to the place where he is gone. Not in that poor lowly stable, with the oxen standing by, We shall see him; but in heaven, set at God’s right hand on high; Where, like stars his children crowned, all in white shall wait around.

Anthem All My Heart this Night Rejoices Z. Randall Stroope Westminster Choir, Amanda Weber, conductor

All my heart, all this night rejoices, as I hear far and near sweetest angel voices, “Gloria in excelsis Deo!”All the air, and everywhere, “Gloria!”Come let us all both great and small sing, “Gloria!” Hail the star where hope is burning, “Gloria!”Love, who with love is yearning, ever yearning, “Gloria!” All my heart…Come and dwell in glory forever and ever.Far on high in joy that can alter never.Dwell in the house of Love forever, ever and ever, Gloria! All my heart…

Prayer (Unison) Sarah Brouwer

God of grace and truth, in Jesus Christ you came among us as light shining in dark-ness. We confess that we have not welcomed the light, or trusted good news to be good. We have closed our eyes to glory in our midst, expecting little, and hoping for less. Forgive our doubt, and renew our hope, so we may receive the fullness of your grace, and live in the truth of Christ the Lord. Amen.

Meditation What Difference Does Christmas Make? Timothy Hart-Andersen

*Carol No. 112 On Christmas Night All Christians Sing

Offertory Sentences

Having heard the Word, we now respond in gratitude by giving. Please place your offering in the plate, or use the “I give to Westminster” card in recognition of your contributions made online or in another way.

Offertory Anthem What Sweeter Music John Rutter

What sweeter music can we bring than a carol, for to sing the birth of this our heavenly King? Awake the voice! Awake the string! Dark and dull night, fly hence away, and give the honour to this day that sees December turned to May. Why does the chilling winter’s morn smile, like a field beset with corn? Or smell like a meadow newly shorn thus on the sudden? Come and see the cause, why things thus fra-grant be: ‘Tis he is born, whose quickening birth gives life and lustre, public mirth, to heaven and the underearth. We see him come, and know him ours, who, with his sunshine and his showers, turns all the patient ground to flowers. The darling of the world is come, and fit it is, we find a room to welcome him. The nobler part of all the house here, is the heart, which we will give him; and bequeath this holly, and this ivy wreath, to do him honour; who’s our King, and Lord of all this reveling. What sweeter music can we bring than a carol, for to sing the birth of this our heavenly King.

Christmas Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Alanna Simone Tyler

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
