• Futuring is being one step ahead, trying to see what the future of education can be• Futuring will help education grow• Futuring is beneficial to both the educator and

the student• “There is no future in any job. The future likes in

Scenarios & scanning

• With scenarios, “the idea behind this construct is to establish future planning which can minimize surprises and broaden the span of managers’ thinking about different possibilities” (Mietzner & Reger, 2005).

• “Scanning identifies the indications of change, but it is monitoring that provides an ongoing review of the effects and impact of the change. Monitoring becomes the method for ongoing organizational intelligence that enables extension to determine current relevance” (Sobrero, 2004).

Technology & Economics

Students want to be able to use technology within the classroom, however the budget is not there. Classes are lacking supplies like smartboards.-In the end, the economy will be the deciding factors if colleges are going to have to close their doors. Students will not want to attend if the technology is not up to date, especially with tuition increases. -The educator should not be responsible to improvise if there is no technology, the university should realize where it is lacking and make changes-It is the hope that technology will continue to be utilized in the university environment with the support of both economics and public policy.

Public Policy

-The price of community college is slowly rising along with the cost of a four year college. It is the hope that the policy makers will be more aware of this and make a change.-The image below compare the cost of an average public four-year college in Virginia to Virginia’s Community Colleges from 2010 to the predicted outcome in 2013-2013.

take classes at the same time• Allows both the traditional students as

well as adult students to receive an education

• Provides the opportunity for more internship hours

• Allows students who have disabilities to get an education without having to be in the classroom

• Less students living on campus• Lack of face-to-face social skills that would have

been gained in traditional setting• Communication with the instructor may be harder• Higher risk of cheating and plagiarism partially

Call to action

• Create a committee that is made up of people from all different departments so that there is a variety of ideas

• Have a leader who is just there to make sure the group stays on task

• Create a breakdown of what needs to be done• Is the software up to date• What major should be the first online major• Is there enough faculty that know the online system

• Create a timeline• What needs to be accomplished first, by when?• What would be the last step? Final date?

• Create a budget• What is realistic?
