• 10 people indicted in 2010 point shaving scheme including former asst coach & 2 athletes

An ND fan created a poster featuring the Notre Dame inside linebacker accompanied by an Adidas logo. The graphic appeared on Manti’s Twitter thread along with his appreciation for the effort.

East Carolina University Pirates

During 2009 a women’s tennis student athlete serving as an academic tutor wrote papers on fifteen occasions and created a presentation that 4 baseball student-athletes submitted as their own work.

• All 5 competed while ineligible

• 2 suspended for 09-10 & 10-11 season

• 3 declared permanently ineligible

Cliff Harris

Harris was driving a rental car on June 12 when he & 3 teammates were clocked driving 118 in a 65-mph zone with a suspended license. Where’d he get the car?

Result: suspended & will sit out at least the Ducks’ season opener versus LSUIn Dallas.

An investigation into any possible NCAA violations is pending.

Which way to the Natty?

Arizona State & Georgetown Baseball Programs

ASU’s former head baseball coach employed 20 student-athletes who were compensated nearly $6,000 for work they did not perform. Result: 3 year probation & 1 year postseason ban.

An audit would have assisted Georgetown in discovering 7 years of negligent record keeping and over $61,000 of unearned wages paid to 26 student-athletes. Result: 3 year probation in 2009.

Southern Cal’s Marc Tyler

Clausen’s former high school teammate was suspended July 18 for comments he made to media group TMZ while allegedly intoxicated. When asked if athletes were paid better at USC or in the pros, Tyler replied USC.

Result: suspended for at least the Trojan’s home opener versus Minnesota September 3. He awaits further sanctions.

Former UNC defensive tackle Marvin Austin

Took 4 trips he did not pay for, 2 to California & 2 to Florida. The agent scandal that broke at UNC ultimately affected the eligibility of 13 teammates and South Carolina’s Weslye Saunders.

Austin, Robert Quinn & Greg Little dismissed• improper benefits • academic misconduct.

Knowledge of the impermissible benefits provided to Austin and others was first leaked on Austin’s own Twitter account.
