An unique zero-carbon power generation potential
• An increasing electricity production of nuclear origin, with the commissioning of the EPR in 2017
• A significant growth potential thanks to marine renewable energies (tidal and wind)
• A region that already exports electricity (with limited consumption)
• A significant level of fossil fuel imports (heat and mobility) leading to a negative regional energy balance
About 10GW of decarbonated electricity could be produced in West Normandie in 2030, equivalent to 10% of the installed capacity in France

A positive power balance in production…
2030: About 40 TWh of excess in electricity should be exported and / or stored and/or used in the region
“Median” scenario: Exploitation of the region’s renewable marine energy potential: tidal (10TWh) and offshore wind (3TWh)EPR commissioning in 2017 - Flamanville 1 and 2 still in operation in 2030

Beyond a storage mean, hydrogen is also an decarbonated energy vector that can be used for electricity, mobility, heat
Hydrogen is also a feedstock for chemicals and valorisation of CO2 (hydrogenation of CO2)

An optimized management of energy systems becomes possible
Using hydrogen as a physical bridge between energy networks, and with the help of smart network technologies, interdependencies and interactions between the different energy networks can be managed to reach a global optimization

Conclusion – La contribution de la Manche à la transition énergétiqueThe Hydrogen Energy Roadmap for West Normandie
Three ambitious objectives at the horizon 2050 :
• Develop the energy production capacity making the region the first national energy producer• Decarbonate the consumption to become independent from fossil fuels• Develop a job-creating economy and generate growth
The roadmap component
• Production of electricity• Production of hydrogen• Hydrogen mobility• Cogeneration of heat and electricity• Chemical products using hydrogen as a feedstock• Energy export through hydrogen• Optimization of energy management using smart networks• Economic analysis – investments and related jobs creation

Conclusion – La contribution de la Manche à la transition énergétique
This regional demonstrator will be deployed in three steps:
•Short term: - deployment of mature technologies, available on
the market- adaptation of technological demonstrators, which
are underway or planned in other regions
•Middle term: - technological demonstrators to test new
technological bricks - Improvement of yields
•Long term: - Generalization of uses- R&D programs focused on local issues- large industrial programs
A phased deployment in time…

Conclusion – La contribution de la Manche à la transition énergétique
West Normandie’s unique energy potential makes it one of the main actors of Energy Transition in France and in Europe
The use of hydrogen and intelligent multi-energy networks is the stepping stone to set up a high-performance economy of the future for the region and its inhabitants
West Normandie has the potential and the ambition to become the French demonstrator of the hydrogen economy
