THE RECORDS Saturday’s game is a huge contest for the West Georgia men’s basketball program, as the Wolves look to move back into the win column after two straight losses. The Wolves are 11-7 overall on the year and 6-4 in GSC play in the first season under head coach Dave Moore. CBU comes into the game with a 13-6 overall record this season and an 8-3 mark against Gulf South Conference opponents. LAST TIME OUT West Georgia is currently on a two-game losing streak after a 92-81 loss to Union on Thursday evening. Marquill Smith scored 30 points and Aren Ulmer dished out eight assists, but the biggest dis- crepancy in the stat sheet was 27 free-throws made for Union to 15 free-throws taken by the Wolves. Christian Brothers is tied atop the GSC after a fifth-straight victory on Thursday, beating Shorter 112- 62 in Rome. LOG JAM IN THE GSC STANDINGS Saturday marks “the turn” in the Gulf South Conference schedule, as the Wolves will have played every team on the schedule once this season, with nine games left in the battle for the Gulf South Conference tournament. Nine teams are a mere two games out of first place in the GSC standings heading into Saturday’s junket. West Alabama, Christian Brothers, Delta State, and Lee are all tied for first place with an 8-3 league record. Valdosta State is just behind that quartet with a 7-4 record, while travel partners UAH and UWG are each 6-4 and will not meet again until the season finale. Union is 6-5, followed by the Montevallo Falcons at 5-5. A RETURN FOR MOORE With Christian Brothers in The Coliseum on Saturday, UWG head coach Dave Moore will have a reunion of sorts, as he coaches against Mike Nienaber. Moore coached under Nienaber early in his career in the profession at Christian Brothers. THREE-POINT SHOOTING The Wolves have had a trend of struggling from the three-point line since the return from the holiday break in Gulf South Conference play. In six league games in the month of January, West Georgia has hit three-pointers at better than a 30 percent clip in only one game with a 3-3 record. In the seven games prior to the holidays, the Wolves were 6-1 with the lowest shooting percentage from three-point range in that span of games as 37.5 percent. The best shooting performance of the conference schedule was against Valdosta State on January 17, when the Wolves hit 52 percent from beyond the arc. 10 Years in The Coliseum• This is the 10th season in The Coliseum, and the Wolves have played

127 games on the men’s side in the facility. West Georgia is 6-1 on the year and 89-41 overall in The Coliseum.

• The biggest crowd in the history of The Coliseum for West Georgia basketball was more than 5,000 on February 18, 2012, against Val-dosta State. The Wolves won that one 85-52 on a night when Gavin Field broke the UWG record for career three-pointers and joined the 1,000-point club.

• Including this year’s roster, 85 players from West Georgia have played on the floor at The Coliseum in the 125-game history of the venue.

Head Coach Dave MooreMoore takes over the UWG basketball program after 10 years as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y. His resume features 20 years of experi-ence as an assistant coach in NCAA Divisions I, II and III basketball, as well as a short stint at the NAIA level. In his last five years at St. Bonaventure, the Bonnies won at least 18 games in each season, culminating with a school-record 26 wins in 2017-18. That 26-win season includes a victory over the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the First Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. UWG’s new coach is excited to take on his new challenge. Credited as a passionate and detail-oriented assistant at St. Bonaventure, Moore was responsible for a consistent and successful player development program as well as taking on the opponent scouting duties during the season. A true student of the game, Moore helped guide 21 players to sign professional contracts, including Andrew Nicholson, who was the 19th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Moore was integral in day-to-day game preparation as well as recruiting efforts that helped take a program from 15 wins in 2007-08 to 26 wins in 2017-18. Prior to his time at St. Bonaventure, Moore spent the 2006-07 season as an as-sistant at Division I Robert Morris University, where he managed skill development, scouting and recruiting. He also will fully understand the rigors of Gulf South Confer-ence basketball, as Moore spent two seasons from 2000-02 on the staff at GSC rival Christian Brothers University, where he specialized in game preparation with film breakdown and scouting opponents. Moore’s first collegiate basketball coaching experience came at his alma mater, Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn., in the 1997-98 season. He moved into the NCAA ranks in 1998, taking an assistant coach position at the College of Mount Saint Jo-seph in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a player, Moore was awarded a full athletic scholarship to play basketball at Bethel, where he played for four years. In the 1996-97 season, Moore was named a Scholar Athlete by the TranSouth Conference. In that year, Moore was the team captain and led Bethel in assists. Moore graduated from Bethel in 1998 with a bach-elor’s degree in history and a minor in secondary education. He received his master’s degree in education from Christian Brothers University in 2002. Moore and his wife Erica have two children, Gracie and Cooper.
