About the Speaker: Topic: Real Time Well Tool Face Information Reduces Directional Uncertainty and Risks in Difficult Sidetracks Bio: Eric Epton is the Directional Drilling Coordinator for Baker Hughes INTEQ in Bakersfield, CA. He has previously worked as a Directional Drilling Coordinator and Drilling Engineer for Baker Hughes INTEQ in Houston, TX. He started his career as a Field Engineer for Schlumberger in various US Land locations. He is holds a BS in Petroleum Engineer-ing from Louisiana State Univer-sity.

Abstract: The advent of real time drilling dynamics tools has intro-duced new downhole measurements to the drilling environment. These measurements can be used to pre-cisely and accurately define well-bore geometry. By using known survey information and realtime definition of the wellbore geometry, an accurate calculation can be made to determine wellbore position even in the presence of magnetic interfer-ence without the use of gyros. The presentation will cover the methodology of this practice and a case history.

Don’t hold your breath; I doubt we’ll be making drill strings out of nano-metals any time soon, but they have already applied diamond nano-composites to drill bits so you may soon be drilling with nano technol-ogy!

Please remember, our next technical forum is on April 15th at Coconut Joe’s. I hope to see you all there!

Nice weather has arrived! Well an-other great AADE golf tournament. As always lots of great food and fun made for a perfect day on the golf course. Thanks to everyone who supported the AADE golf tourna-ment this year and thanks to Dave for another great tournament. It would be great if everyone from the golf tournament came out to support the sporting clay shoot coming up May 14th. The sporting clay shoots are always a lot of fun and a great stress reliever. The jackets we got at the last shoot were especially nice. On to the technical forum, this month we will be hearing from Eric Epton with Baker Hughes Inteq on Real Time Well Tool Face Informa-tion Reducing Directional Uncer-tainty and Risks in Difficult Side-tracks. Directional drilling is always a interesting topic. The technology in the directional department seems

to be advancing at a rapid pace. It’s always a good idea to stay up to date with new technology . You never know when it might improve your drilling program. Attached to the newsletter this month is the flier for the 34th annual Boy Scouts golf tournament. This is the 100th anniversary for the Boy Scouts of America and a record turnout at this years golf tournament would be a great way to support our local Boy Scouts. The tournament will be held on June 18th at Stock-dale Country Club. Please see the attached flier for more details. The AADE board is work-ing on setting up Pay Pal so all AADE events can be paid for ahead of time and with a credit card. We feel this will make things easier on everyone’s expense accounts. I hope to see everyone at the monthly technical forum meet

I grew up in South Louisiana (Houma). I attended Nicholls State University and finished school in Orlando, Florida with a degree in golf course management. After working in the golf industry, I joined Smith International, Inc. in 2008, completing their extensive training program. I then relocated to Bakersfield, California where I am now a salesman with Smith.

1st 2010 AADE West Coast Chapter Invitational Golf Tournament

I hope we all had a good time this year. This year is not only special since it was the first invitational AADE golf tournament, but also the great weather we were blessed with. I would like to again thank and remember our Armed Forces currently fighting in Af-ghanistan, Iraq and around the world. Because of their loyalty and dedication we are able to enjoy days such as this. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard was on hand to sound out a taps tribute to Roger Gunning who served in the US Navy and is no longer with us. I will always re-member him as a strong supporter of our AADE Golf Tournament and a good friend to many of us. Sponsors and the generosity of our members all create an atmosphere that everyone en-joys every year; because of those efforts we were able to once again raise a significant amount of money for scholarship awards. I would like to recognize our Sponsors and individuals who make this tournament a suc-cess.
