Wacker Neuson Offers NewArticulated Wheel LoaderWacker Neuson’s model WL 37 articulat-

ed wheel loader offers high flow auxiliaryhydraulics for enhanced attachment per-formance. This 4 ton (3.7 t) unit offers astraight load capacity of 5,926 lbs. (2,688kg) and fully articulated tipping capacity of4,912 lbs. (2,228 kg) using a standard 0.78cu. yd. (.6 cu m) bucket. Power comes froma 4-cylinder, 77.8 hp (58 kW) turbo chargedDeutz diesel engine.

Performance The WL 37 is available with 17-gpm (64

L) auxiliary hydraulics or a true high flowoption of 33-gpm (125 L). This high flowoption allows the unit to operate high flowattachments such as cold planers, snowblowers, etc.

Maneuverability The articulated WL 37 offers maneuver-

ability and handling especially in tight work-ing conditions. The built-in articulated jointreacts to uneven ground and ensures that allfour wheels remain on the ground at alltimes, providing for extremely stable opera-tion, according to the manufacturer.

Operator Comfort The spacious operator station offers many

creature comforts for easy operation andimproved productivity. The 360-degree visi-bility provides an enhanced view of theimmediate working area and the attach-ments. The multifunctional single lever con-trol is conveniently arranged next to the dri-ver’s seat for easy operation. A tilting steer-ing wheel, cushioned and adjustable driver’s

seat, large, wide-opening doors, heated andair conditioned cabin and working lights allcontribute to the comfort.

Operating Efficiency Wacker Neuson’s WL 37 offers a 100 per-

cent on-demand differential lock that pro-vides the operator with traction in slipperywet conditions or when driving into a pile ofmaterial. When disengaged for normal driv-ing tire wear is reduced. The WL 37 is engi-neered to ensure high payloads to providebetter break out force and lifting capabilities. The hydrostatic drive together with the com-bined brake-inch pedal provides maximumoperating hydraulics power. This enables theWL 37 to maneuver with extreme safety andprecision even with high loads. The skidsteer quick-hitch and standard auxiliaryhydraulics allow for efficient changing fromone accessory to another, according to themanufacturer.

Easy to Service The large engine cover and compartment

allows for easy access to daily maintenanceand service points. The driver’s cabin can betipped to the side for optimum accessibilityto the hydraulic system, electrical systemand articulated cylinder. According to Jay Baudhuin, compact

equipment product manager, “The WackerNeuson compact wheel loaders can performthe same tasks as a higher powered skidloader but deliver up to 30 percent in fuelsavings. They also are faster on the job site.Add to this the wide range of attachmenttools we offer and you really do have amachine that can match the versatility of askid loader and save a decent amount ofmoney on the job site.”

Wacker Neuson’s model WL 37 artic-ulated wheel loader offershigh flow auxiliary

hydraulics for enhancedattachment performance.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) A new roadis being proposed for an area of Anchoragethat is home to two universities and two hos-pitals, but many community councils areopposed to the plan. The area, known as U-Med, accounts for

11 percent of the city’s jobs — an estimated16,000 in all. That means a lot of traffic com-ing and going, every day. The Anchorage Daily News reported May

20 that between 150 and 200 people attend-ed a meeting to talk about putting in a newroad on undeveloped university land to con-nect the schools more directly to a majorboulevard. Community Councils in the area appear to

be against the idea of a new road, but alsorealize that something will have to be doneto handle increased traffic. Ed Leach, president of the Russian Jack

Community Council, said in an interviewwith the Daily News that he personallythinks rising hospital traffic will demand anew road, but the community council hasvoted to oppose it. Some other surrounding community

councils have also voted against building aroad that slices through University of Alaska

Anchorage and Alaska Pacific Universitylands, said Peter Mjos, who works at aProvidence Alaska Medical Center clinicand is former Rogers Park CommunityCouncil president. This is not the first time a new road pro-

posal has been made, he said. “This is deja vu all over again and again

and again,” Mjos said. According to consultants Dowl HKM,

who have been studying the issue for thestate Department of Transportation, some-thing needs to be done because the area —which has two universities, ProvidenceAlaska Medical Center and Alaska NativeMedical Center and related office buildings— has been building up fast and there is nodirect route into the campuses from the northand east sides. Dowl has recommended studying five

possible routes. It also recommends lookingat creating a huge park-and-ride lot at thecorner of Bragaw and Northern Lights, andcoupling it with a shuttle service to ferrypeople to their U-Med destinations. Dowl is accepting public comment

through June. Its report will be completed bymid-July.

Allmand Introduces New VSeries Vertical Light TowerAllmand Bros. Inc. has introduced the new V Series vertical

light tower configuration in its Night-Lite PROSeries light towers as well as in its Maxi-Liteline of light towers. With standard light tow-ers, when the light mast is retracted, it must befolded down across the light tower for stor-age, transport and light fixture adjustment. But with the new V Series design, the mastretracts and telescopes vertically, whichresults in easier setup, simplified shipping, towing and storage, and reduced potential fordamage, according to the manufacturer. The V Series configuration features a

hydraulic lift system, which allows the mast to be com-pletely raised and lowered in less than 30 seconds.Additionally, the new design allows for more intuitivelight fixture positioning (angle and direction). With stan-dard light towers, the mast is horizontal when lowered, meaning a bit of trial and error is required to accuratelyposition each fixture. But with the V Series, the tower isstill vertical when retracted, making accurate fixtureadjustment fast and simple. Furthermore, the fixturesfirmly hold their adjusted position as the tower is raisedand the lights can be operated at any height. Built to be much more compact than standard light

towers, the V Series mast and light fixture assembly staywithin the footprint of the trailer when lowered. Since ittakes up less space, the result is a light tower that’s easi-er and less expensive to ship, tow and store. Additionally, because the V Series tower doesn’t protrude from theback of the cabinet, there is less chance for accidentaldamage and injury when towing on today’s tight jobsites, according to the manufacturer. The V Series features an integrated engine fluid

containment tray and remote oil drain that reduce thepotential for accidental liquid spills. This makes the unitpractical for use in environmentally sensitive areas andhelps protect against costly cleanup expenses and regu-latory fines. For simplified loading and positioning, the V Series

light towers include side and rear forkliftpockets and lift point. For more informa-

tion, call 800/562-1373 or visitwww.allmand.com.

Low light pollu-tion and sharp side cut-offreduces road glare tomotorists, making the AL4Land AL5L ideal across awide range of applications.“Terex is pioneering LED

technology that lowers oper-ating costs and offersimproved job site perform-ance providing innovativesolutions to our customers,”said Jeff Weido, senior prod-uct manager, Terex AWP.“The combination of a 10hour run-time and silentoperation makes the LEDlight towers ideal for applica-tions ranging from commer-cial construction to indoorentertainment events. TerexAWP aims to continue pro-viding the best job site solu-tions to our customers bystaying on the cutting edge oftechnology.”The AL4L and AL5L pro-

vide job site illuminationwithout sacrificing compactportability, according to themanufacturer. When operating, both units offer a 30 ft.

(9 m) extended height. When stowed, theAL5L has a height of 69 in. (175 cm) and alength of 178 in. (452 cm). The AL4L iseven more compact with a stowed height of67 in. (170 cm) and length of 178 in.

Terex LED light tower offerings includethe AL5L and two AL4L options, a batteryoperated unit and a generator operated unit. The AL5L comes standard with an 8kWgenerator for charging on-board batteries. These light towers offer the convenience ofself charging as the AL5L can be used tocharge up to three battery operated AL4Lunits. One AL4L with 6kW generator option

also can charge one AL4L battery operatedunit. This charging system decreases overallfuel consumption considerably when towersare used in collaboration. For more information, visit

New Electric-Driven PortableAir Compressor IntroducedDoosan has a new electric-driven, 750

cfm portable air compressor, the HP750e.End users of HP750 compressor can now

choose an optional clean, quiet, three-phaseelectric motor instead of a diesel engine. Inthe electric model, both power and coolingsystems are controlled by a liquid cooled, variable frequency drive. The HP750e is 100 percent emissions-

free and ultra-quiet, making it ideal for appli-cations that have grid power available or arealready utilizing a portable generator, according to the manufacturer. Because the compressor is electric-pow-

ered and creates zero emissions, the HP750eis not subject to the EPA emissions regula-tions or Transport Canada fuel tank regula-tions.All major service points on the HP750e

are easily accessible, meaning less timespent on maintenance of coolers, filters andfluids. By using the electric poweredHP750e, service time and costs are less thanwould be spent on a traditional diesel pow-ered compressor. The inconvenience of pur-chasing, storing, and transporting potentiallyhazardous diesel fuel also has been eliminat-ed.A full-color digital display puts the opera-

tor in complete control of the HP750e.

Doosan Portable Power utilizes an easy-to-use interface that also can be remotely mon-itored via a wireless connection and a smartphone, tablet or personal computer. Theoptional, customizable, full-gauge packagefeatures a dual-colored, LED backlightingsystem that provides enhanced operator vis-ibility under any operating conditions. The HP750e is packaged in the same

rugged and reliable enclosure as otherDoosan Portable Power air compressors. The heavy-duty tandem-axle running gearon the portable HP750e is built with anextended-life slipper spring system that pro-tects the unit during highway towing. The HP750e also offers a multitude of

factory-installed options to customize thecompressor to match the needed application. The IQ System aftercooler can be installedalong with particulate and coalescing filters. This condensate disposal system allows forclean, drip-free moisture control.Optional dual-pressure regulation also is

DENVER (AP) Researchers are in a race against time asthey dig up ice age era fossils in western Colorado. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has 40 days to

excavate a site near Aspen where more than 100 bones havebeen unearthed, including mastodon skulls and pelvises andmammoth tusks. The excavation site is in the middle of an active construc-

tion zone for a reservoir, and the project must be wrapped upby July 1 because of an agreement with the water and sani-tation district in Snowmass Village, according to researchofficials. A bulldozer operator found the first fossil at the site at

Ziegler Reservoir in October. Since then, two skulls, verte-brae, ribs, wrist and ankles bones from mastodons have beenfound along with three mammoth tusks, a deer pelvis and abison wrist bone. Overall, more than 100 ice age bones havebeen discovered. Snow has been falling nonstop in Colorado’s mountains,

making the dig a challenge. Kirk Johnson, the leader of the museum’s excavation

team, said the site is so rich with bones it’s off the charts interms of ice age fossil sites. “I’m looking at 40 figures working with shovels, moving

through soft dirt. I can see a tusk, a skull and a culvert at thesurface. It’s an amazingly rich site,” Johnson said. Mastodons are relatives of mammoths and elephants,

according to the project’s Web site, but Johnson saidmastodons are usually found in the eastern part of the coun-try while mammoth finds have been more common in thewest. What’s so unusual about the excavation site at Snowmass

Village is there had previously only been two or three partialmastodon finds in Colorado. “Colorado only had a couple of records of mastodons

before this site. And now we have the parts of at least 10mastodons,” Johnson said. Johnson said the finds don’t just open up a window into

the little-known life of the mastodon — they also bring someclarity to the time frame of the ice age and how it impactedthe high elevations of the Rockies. “High elevation sites are very poorly known. We’ve been

able to use this section to construct a climate history for theRockies during the ice age and what happened to theRockies as the ice age came and went,” Johnson said. Officials said May 25 they received a $100,000 donation

from the owners of the Aspen Skiing Company. GeorgeSparks, president and CEO at the museum said they haveraised $460,000 toward their $1 million fundraising goal.

I-10 Gets Summertime Upgrade in Cochise County, Ariz.FNF Construction of Tempe was

named prime contractor with a contractof $9.48 million. FNF recently workedon another section of this highway, where it built a new traffic interchangeat I-10 and Marsh Station Rd.FNF is being assisted by Arizona

Highway Safety Specialists Inc.(AHSS) of Chino Valley, who was sub-contracted for the bridge barrier andguardrail work. AHSS is nearly fin-ished with its portion of the project, asoutlined in its $400,000 contract.Valentine Surfacing Company of

Vancouver, Wash., is performing themilling work with a Roadtec millingmachine.“Generally, the wearable teeth on the

milling machine are replaced everythree to four hours,” said Clint Amator, project manager of FNF. “Becausesome sections of asphalt were harderthan usual, Valentine had to replace theteeth every hour and a half.” Amator said that the hardened

asphalt will not be a hindrance in finish-ing the project on schedule.Other subcontractors on the job

include Pavement Marking Inc. (PMI)

of Tempe for roadway striping, andGonzalez Construction Company, headquartered in Delores, Colo., forrumble strips.“We’re running two milling shifts,

night and day, and paving during theday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” said Amator.Crews are working on 3 mi. (4.8 km)

sections at a time, in which the speedlimit has been reduced from 75 mph to45mph. Class “C” wide-loads (morethan 14-ft. wide) are detoured onto a 70-mi. bypass using U.S. 70 and U.S. 191.FNF is using a Dillman hot plant set

up approximately 8 mi. (12.9 km) fromthe work site. The project will require atotal of 125,000 tons (113,398 t) ofasphalt for paving. Other equipmentincludes two Cat 634 rollers that FNFrented from Empire Machinery andRental in Tucson, and FNF-owned CATpavers.Paving work is expected to be com-

plete by the end of June, with remedialwork wrapping up in September.

SAKAIhas added two roadrehab products to its line. The ER552F is a high-speed

pneumatic tire road planer designed forcost-effective milling of asphalt materials. The main feature of this machine is its 81 in.(205 cm) wide cutter drum assembly that cutsdown to 9” (230 mm) deep in one pass. This sameunit also shifts laterally 18 in. (45 cm) to either side ofthe machine for flush cutting up tight to curbs, jersey bar-riers, footings and other obstacles. The lateral shift feature also enables the cutter location to adjust

side to side for quick cutting around manholes and drainage inletswithout stopping the machine or employing costly “dental” planers orother equipment. Unlike other planers or profilers in this size range, thisflexible cut feature enables the ER552F to work on city street projects alone, with a minimal need to invest in other accessory equipment. And the lateralshift feature enables work close up to soft shoulders — an extra safety advan-tage, according to the manufacturer. The ER552F’s motorgrader-like bogey suspension system enables a high quali-

ty milled surface ready for overlay. For extremely stable operation, it employs a62,170 lb. (28,200 kg) operating weight propelled by a powerful 561 hp (418 kW) TierIII diesel engine. The PM550 road stabilizer provides soil stabilization and full-depth reclamation to

repair failed HMA pavements quickly and cost effectively.

The PM550 is an alternative for low volume roads and low budget programs, saving upto 40 percent on cold in-place reclamation projects with shorter construction times and moreprofit for the contractor. It leaves a stabilized road base, ready for HMA overlay. This machine features a high torque, two-speed (100 rpm/1.7 Hz and 130 rpm/2.2 Hz)

rotor with lateral shift capabilities like the ER552F, that enable the operator to avoid streetiron while working up close to obstacles with enhanced visibility of the cutting and mixingoperation. Four-wheel drive keeps the entire system moving consistently and positivelyacross the site, regardless of conditions, at a top working speed of 57 feet per minute (48 m),according to the manufacturer. The machine is powered by a six-cylinder 496 hp (370 kW) Komatsu Tier III Diesel

Engine. An optional auto-spray emulsion system provides uniform mixing over the length and

width of the job. Both models offer easy access to the cutting teeth and toothholders for serv-icing and tool repairs and replacement.

Roadtec Introduces ‘E’ Series Shuttle Buggy MTVThe Roadtec Shuttle Buggy asphalt remixing

device is being offered in an upgraded version. Thenew generation E-series Shuttle Buggy material trans-fer vehicle has enhanced conveyor wear resistance, which will lower contractors’ operating costs. A newadjustable width front hopper allows the E-series towork with trucks of widths commonly used in coun-tries outside the United States. The dual operator stations of the machine have been

enhanced and can now slide sideways past the outeredge of the main frame, which improves visibility. Themix storage functionality of the SB-2500E ShuttleBuggy MTV has been improved with the addition ofbindicators, devices which show the paving crewexactly how much mix remains in the hopper, accord-ing to the manufacturer.

The E-series Shuttle Buggy MTV features CAT C-27 ACERT, 950 hp (2,100 kW) Tier IV diesel engineand will be available in a Tier III version for certaininternational markets. An optional side-shift operator platform is avail-

able. Pavement lifespan tests as they relate to temperature

segregation during the paving process have shown thata temperature differential of less than seven degreesCelsius in the mat behind the paver are key to evencompaction and therefore pavement durability.Infrared imaging behind the Shuttle Buggy MTV

has shown in tests conducted in the United States aswell as in Europe that the machine easily and consis-tently remixes to achieve temperature differentialbelow the seven degree threshold.

The Shuttle Buggy MTV by Roadtec is now available in an upgrad-ed version.

Wacker NeusonExpands Its SmallReversible Plate Line

Wacker Neuson added a new model to its range of small mobile vibra-tory plates. The new DPU 3050H offers contractors and landscapers a 6.8hp (5 kW) Hatz diesel engine option as well as the gasoline powered mod-els. The DPU 3050H is one of seven models to offer an integrated wheelset that offers increased mobility around the construction site, showroomand shop floor.

Versatility turns into productivity when using Wacker Neuson’s DPU3050H plate or its gasoline partners, BPU 3050 (powered by a WackerNeuson engine) and BPU 3050A (Honda engine). Beside the unique inte-grated wheel set for easy and efficient maneuverability, these plates pro-duce 6,750 lbs. of centrifugal force (30 kN) at optimally matchedadvanced travel speed to offer enhanced compaction performance andoverall high productivity, according to the manufacturer.

The simple to use design offers a single lever directional control thatprovides for easy operation and an adjustable guide handle can be lockedinto vertical position for easy transportation and storage. The speciallydesigned shockmount system offers a virtually vibration free guide handlefor increased operator comfort and reduced operator fatigue.

Wacker Neuson’s small reversible plates are practical for the com-paction of interlocking paving stones, sidewalks, foot paths, retainingwalls, plus the overall compact design and forward/reverse operationmakes for productive trench compaction, according to the manufacturer.

The DPU 3050H offers contractors and landscapers a 6.8 hp (5 kW) Hatz diesel engine option aswell as the gasoline powered models.

EXACTCOMPACT HELPS SPEED COMPACTION BY MONITORING IMPACT SPACINGTake a high-frequency Sakai roller and you can speed compaction. With EXACTCOMPACT, you can be sure that you’re rolling at the precise impact spacing.EXACTCOMPACT is a simple visual monitor: Red = You’re rolling too fast. Yellow = You’re rolling too slow. Green = You’re right on target to reach density at the fastest possible ground speed. EXACTCOMPACT is standard on mainline Sakairollers – optional on all others. Put it to work on your next HMA job.
