Year 4 Peacock and Barn Owl English This term we will be writing to entertain the reader. We will be focusing on writing our own journey/adventure stories. Our inspiration will come from different fictional texts based on early-human characters. First we will be exploring an archaeological dig site and imagining the occupants. We will then dramatically re-tell the story of the Berry that Talked. After that we will be exploring cave paintings and creating our own adventure story based on our cave painting comic strip. Science and History Stone age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Who were the early humans and how did they live? What did is hunter gathers and farmers do? We will discover more about early man in History. What are sundials? Did the Early Humans notice patterns in the suns movement? What produces light and what is darkness? We will be exploring these questions over the next term in our Light and Dark Science Topic. . Computing Blogging and sharing opinions online is a valuable part of using the internet. We will investigate how to blog and format. PE In Year 4, we have the great opportunity to learning and developing our swim skills – Peacocks will be in the pool this term! Barn Owls will be focusing on dance and netball skills! Art/ Design Technology You guessed it! We will be investigating the ‘Lascaux’ Cave Art; we will focus on the methods and composition of the human and animal forms. We will use a range of ‘tools’ to explore the pattern and shape in the painting. As a team, we will collaborate to create our own cave painting art. Maths This term, we will use mental and written strategies to answer addition and subtraction problems as well as apply these to tricky problems. We will also explore length and perimeter. Finally, we will focus on multiplying and dividing using a range of methods. Did you know, November is known as ‘Barvember’ and will be spending some extra exploring the Bar model as a way of proving our understanding.
