Wow! And amidst all of these events students have been engaged in rich learning tasks to expand their

knowledge and skills across all the Key Learning Areas. Well done everybody!

I was so very impressed with the calibre of our Year 5 students who put themselves forward for the student

leadership role for 2018. I listened to all their speeches along with the rest of the school under the COLA and

was inspired by their concepts of leadership. Many spoke of:

• Honesty

• Being an encourager and responsible

• Being a role model

• Being respectful

• Being solution focussed

• Being confident and brave

One particular student spoke of leadership being all about TEAM (Together We Achieve More!) and I was so

very impressed with the fact that she clearly ‘got it’! Well done to you all. Your families and school family are

proud of you all.

This week we have spoken to all students and we have four boys and four girls moving forward for student

leadership 2018. We will have the House Captain voting process next week and all student leaders will be

presented with their badge on Presentation Day on December 12 (12 -1.30pm) and this is when the 2018

School Captains will be announced to the community.

Gala Day was an excellent day for our school community. The teamwork of the Year 6 students and their

teachers support ensured a positive day for all. Lots of smiles, painted faces and jumping feet all enjoyed

the various activities. Gala day is a highlight in our school calendar. Thank you to all the parents who

joined in the day. Mr Warren has announced the raffle winners later in the newsletter.

It was so pleasing to see the commitment of the

SRC to raise money to support causes. Everyone

got into the theme of the day and looked suitably

crazy with their hair and hats!

Well done Wentworthville!

In weeks 4 and 5 artists from Raw Art ran K-6 visual art workshops at our school.

Students in Kindergarten learned about shape and colour and created enormous 'swishy fish' using a range

of materials.

Students in Stage 1 worked with clay to create colourful clay aquariums with a variety of sea creatures

inside. They experimented with modelling and construction techniques to produce their clay aquariums.

Stage 2 students made interesting hanging geometric sculptures. The core concepts for these workshops

included shape, colour, line, repetition and patterns.

Stage 3 students created some fabulous totems inspired by Polynesian culture using a range of mixed

media. They applied their knowledge of symmetry, repetition, patterns and positive and negative space to

create their totems.

Take a look at some of the amazing artworks produced in these sessions.

On Friday 10th November the school captains, along with the NSW Government Whip the Honourable

Natasha Maclaren-Jones, and the Cumberland mayor Mr Greg Cummings, held a Remembrance Day

ceremony at the Wentworthville Park Memorial. As part of this ceremony we collected a sample of soil that

will be incorporated into a major artwork as part of the upgrade of the Anzac War Memorial in Hyde Park.

Soil will be collected from every town in NSW where people enlisted in the Great War and be displayed as

part of the artwork. We are proud to have collected the soil for Wentworthville on behalf of the school and the

community.

Congratulations to Naman Mehta of 6W.

Naman competed in the State Final of the

Premier’s Spelling Bee on 8 November 2017,

at ABC Studios, Ultimo, after winning the

Regional Final at The Meadows Public School.

He finished equal 7th, winning his way through

the first ten rounds before being knocked out

with the word ‘colliery’ - certainly not a word we

see every day. Well done Naman, the whole

school is proud of you.

Welcome from P&C!

Thank you to all who have supported us this year, all efforts are greatly appreciated! Without the volunteers

we wouldn’t be able to achieve all the things that we do.

The P&C Committee meet the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Feel free to come and join us and see

how you are able to help us to help the kids. We would love to see some new faces!

With the end of the year fast approaching, we need to start our planning for the future of P&C.

2018 holds many new adventures and we are on the lookout for new faces to come and join the great team!

There are many opportunities to come and help out and support your families. Aunts, Uncles and

Grandparents are more than welcome to come and support and volunteer!!

The more support that we get, the more successful our efforts are in supporting our children within the school.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday the 6th December at 6pm in the staff room.

If you have questions or would like to give suggestions, please don't hesitate to email us
