Wendy Kelly’s paintings explore a subtle geometry substrate within an “almost monochrome” approach. At a distance they form a homage to the minimalist aesthetic, but a closer view reveals mesmerizing complex processes and details.

Using thread to construct a complex lineal structure minimalism’s influences are explored and developed

in two post-minimalist ways. Firstly, the complex multi layering of lines play with light through texture and depth with multiple glazes. Secondly, by the addition of further collage in the form of text or music scores, (preferably antiquarian and non narrative in nature). This is subverted to a point of un-readability by the veiling with rice paper and glazing which leaves only a suggestion of the word or the rhythm of the print.
