Wenaas OffshOre
A new and innovative collection redefining the standard for flame retardant workwear
In 1931, Lars Wenaas started up a small garment factory in the cellar of his home in Måndalen, on the north-western coast of Norway. This would prove to be the start of the Norwegian industrial adventure Wenaas.
Through hard work, good salesmanship and strong focus, several generations of the Wenaas family built the foundations for the company that is now known as Kwintet Norway.
The business has consistently focused on selling workwear and personal protective equipment directly to Norwegian industrial companies. This focus has provided us with unique specialist expertise in safety products and the industries we operate in, making us the customer’s preferred supplier and advisor.
Our long experience, specialist knowledge and complete assortment has made us the market leader in Norway. Oil and gas companies operating in the North Sea choose us time and again. We are proud of the trust they show in us, and try to exceed their expectations every day.

In a world full of generalists, we have chosen to cultivate the role of a specialist. Both when it comes to product and industry.
Our products must provide protection against everything from water to heat, from dust to falls, and from cold to flames – from head-to-toe and from inside to outside. With the Norwegian climate as our laboratory, we have worked for more than decades to develop products and solutions that help our customers and users do their job.
Be the best advisor and supplier, we have to understand our customers’ needs and demands when it comes to workwear and personal protective equipment. We have this knowledge. Our products are developed in close co-operation between our product developers and end-users, with focus on carefully selected functionality, good fit and excellent quality, of course certified according to the latest EN standards.
Different industries have different needs. Our job is to distinguish between them.

We are experts when it comes to clothing to protect industrial workers in hazardous working environments, and we have set the standard for flame retardant workwear. We want to continue this work.
Wenaas is a pioneer within flame retardant clothing, and we have contributed to protecting oil and gas workers in the North Sea since the beginning of the industry. Our mission is to protect people at work with our extensive competency. For decades we have been the industry’s preferred supplier of flame retardant workwear, and operators and contractors in the North Sea continue to choose Wenaas. We are proud of the trust that our customers place in us.
Work in the offshore industry happens under extreme conditions bringing high levels of expectation and demand on the workwear used. The safety of our users is always our highest priority when we develop new products, and we refuse to compromise. Wenaas products satisfy the stringent safety requirements stipulated in the industry, and are of course certified according to the latest EN standards.
The Wenaas W has acquired a special significance for our users. It symbolises safety and provides the user with a sense of security. It means that the workwear is well suited for the work at hand. With the W on the chest, the user can concentrate on doing the job at hand – safely and comfortably.

aT WOrKIn 2013-2014 we will launch a completely new
Wenaas Offshore collection that has been especially developed for the industry.
The collection includes a new and innovative range of multinorm garments that will set a new standard for flame retardant workwear.
All the garments have an updated fit and the unlined garments follow a numeric sizing system. Wearer trials have shown that the garments fit comfortably on the body, and the users like the new contemporary fitting.
Wearing the right size is important to achieve optimal protection and comfort. The collection is therefore offered in numeric sizes. Everyone can find a size that fits. The good fit and numeric sizing system offer increased comfort and mobility for the user and –even more important – increased safety in hazardous work situations.
For several of the new models, we have chosen Daletec fabrics, as these are durable fabrics with a high standard with regards to both protection and comfort. In addition, we have very good experience with Daletec’s fabrics when it comes to shrinkage and colour fastness.

Our new Offshore Multinorm collection is not only new – it is also the first of its type on the market. Multinorm means that the garments are certified according to several EN standards. The garments therefore provide optimal protection for users working in environments where there is a danger of exposure to several risks in the course of a working day. By selecting multinorm
garments, users across various work areas can also wear the same type of clothing. This means simplified stocking and ratio-nalised purchasing. At the same time, employees appear repre-sentative and uniform. The garments satisfy the requirements according to EN ISO 11612, EN 1149-5 and EN 61482-1-2. Win-ter garments are also certified according to EN 343 and EN 342.

Wearing the appropriate underwear and mid layer garments is important to provide the user with optimal comfort and protection against risks in the working environment, including a tough North Sea climate.
Our range therefore includes a wide selection of flame retardant underwear and mid layer garments from our business partner Devold® Protection, the leading producer of this type of clothing on the European market.
DeVOLD® sPIrITA range of dual layer underwear made from Lenzing FR® and merino wool, which significantly reduces the risk of 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Good protection against both coldness and flames, in combination with the garments’ light weight and excellent comfort, makes this the most advanced flame retardant underwear on the market. The knitting structure combined with merino wool allows these multi-functional garments to absorb moisture from your body and transport it to the outer layer, where it evaporates.

DeVOLD® shIeLDA range of underwear and mid layer clothing suitable for working environments where the user handles electricity, gas, heat and flames. Devold® Shield is knitted with FR Lenzing® and merino wool with reinforcements in polyamide. In addition, Nega-Stat® is included, a special yarn which gives the garments optimal antistatic protection. Devold® Shield also protects against arcing and electrical flashover. The garments are terry knitted which provides a layer of air between the body and the garment that insulates against both cold and heat.
DeVOLD® safeVersatile wool underwear that covers the need for protection in environments where one is exposed to heat and flame during the work day. Devold® Safe is knitted with Lenzing FR® and merino wool, with polyamide reinforcement. Due to the high content of merino wool, Devold® Safe keeps your body dry and comfortable, even during high activity.
A separate test performed by an independent certification institute demonstrated that if one of the new Wenaas Offshore coveralls in a 350 g/m² fabric from Daletec is worn in combi-nation with Devold® Safe underwear, the user is protected against an electrical arc up to 7kA (EN 61482-1-2 class 2).

A Manikin Burn Test carried out by an independent testing laboratory at North Carolina State University shows that the use of flame retardant underwear significantly reduces the extent of 2nd and 3rd degree burns compared to wearing normal cotton underwear.
The test was carried out by means of a manikin, fitted with 150 heat sensors, being dressed in new Wenaas Offshore garments and regular cotton underwear, and then exposed to a 4 second sea of flames. The manikin was then dressed in new Wenaas Offshore garments and Devold® Spirit flame retardant underwear, and again exposed to a 4 second flash fire. At 50% burns on the body, there is a high risk of loss of life. The chance of surviving burns is also affected by age, as the body becomes less resistant to serious burns as it ages.
When the manikin is exposed to the flames, the heat sensors measure the penetration of heat in to the skin and indicate whether there have been 2nd or 3rd degree burns at the relevant point on the body. The total gives an indication of what proportion of the body is burned.
In addition to burns, there can also be scolding injuries due to moisture (perspiration). If the body’s own moisture remains on the skin, it can become so hot when heated that it boils. It is therefore extremely important to wear flame retardant underwear that has good moisture transportation properties.
The test showed that when wearing the new Wenaas Offshore Daletec 350A coverall together with Devold® Spirit flame retardant underwear, the extent of 2nd and 3rd degree burns was reduced by 13%.The test also showed that when wearing the new Wenaas Offshore 220A coverall together with Devold® Spirit flame retardant underwear, the extent of 2nd and 3rd de-gree burns was reduced by a massive 29%.
