Youngsters from four schools and WGC’s further education college took part in the Welwyn Hatfield Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge 2015. It was the second year the chal- lenge has been run – and proved to be an even greater success than last year. The teams were each given £100 with the aim of turning that into £1,000 or more for their nominated charities. They were helped by their own ‘Dragons’, representatives from a variety of local businesses. The Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge 2015 raised a hugely impressive £13,722 for the chosen charities and community groups. It takes the total to more than £20,000 in the two years. Using their initial £100, and with support and guidance from their business mentors and charities, team members were tasked with generating income through busi- ness-based activities. At the same time they gained valu- able practical experience in plan- ning, time management, teamwork, budgeting, communications, sales and marketing. Their months of hard work were rewarded at an awards ceremony held at Gosling Sports Centre in WGC. The award winners were: Overall winner – Sir Frederic Osborn School. Most money earned – Sir Frederic Osborn School. Most innovative product/service and business idea – Oaklands College. Best communication – Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School. It was down to the ‘Super Dragons’ to choose the winners – and it proved a challenge of its own as the quality of all the entries was extremely high. Joining me on the ‘Super Dragons’ panel were chairman Sir Roy Gardner, senior independent director at William Hill, non-execu- tive director of Willis Group Holdings Limited, a senior adviser at Credit Suisse and chairman of Mainstream Renewable Power, Robin Webb, chief executive at St Luke’s Hospice, and Marnie Williams, retail liaison manager at Land Securities, owners of The Galleria in Hatfield.     Bright future as students rise to the Challenge

    Sixth form students from Times Territory showed their entrepre-neurial potential and also gave a huge boost to a number of local charities.

    Youngsters from four schools and WGCs further education college took part in the Welwyn Hatfield Dragons Apprentice Challenge 2015.

    It was the second year the chal-lenge has been run and proved to be an even greater success than last year.
