Many American girls set course for Europe dreaming of an exhilarating romance with a dashing Frenchman. For Meghan Weston, a fashion student in Florence, Italy, this dream became a reality when she headed out to celebrate the start of summer one night and met David Grimbert, who was visiting from Paris. What began as friendly chatting quickly blossomed into a true connection. The next day, David pushed back his flight home, and the couple began their whirlwind courtship.

THE PROPOSAL. After a jet-setting first year, during which Meghan and David traveled everywhere from the sunny shores of St. Tropez to David’s hometown of Paris, the couple followed Meghan’s roots to Miami and began their life together. “When we moved from Paris to Miami, I knew David was in it for the long haul,” Meghan says. After settling into their new apartment, David surprised Meghan by whisking her away to a jewelry store where he had a custom-designed ring waiting for her. What more could Meghan say, other than “oui!”

THE WEDDING WEEKEND. Being the cosmopolitan couple they are, Meghan and David’s guest list spanned continents and oceans. For this reason, the couple wanted their wedding weekend to truly be a relaxing getaway for each of their guests. They selected idyllic Martha’s Vineyard partially because of Meghan’s fond childhood memories of the island, but also because they knew that their friends from Miami, Paris, and beyond would adore its unique charm. Choosing to have a destination wedding helped keep the festivities intimate, and the couple could not have been happier with their special weekend of love and laughter.

THE DAY & DESIGN. In true New England fashion, Meghan and David delighted guests with an authentically chic celebration that was a feast for the senses. From a succulent lobster bake served on rustic farm tables covered with hand-stitched burlap and whitewashed wooden table numbers to the decidedly French place settings adorned with sprigs of lavender, the feeling of cozy romance could not be denied. With the twinkle of subtle bistro lights in the background, Meghan and David began their journey into the sunset together. “Our reception was the perfect beginning to the next chapter of our real-life fairytale,” Meghan says.

megan + daveIT WAS IN THEIR FIRST YEAR AS A COUPLE THAT MEGAN INTRODUCED DAVE TO THE CHARM OF MARTHA’S VINEYARD. THE COUPLE CELEBRATED AMID AN EYE-CATCHING PALETTE OF BOLD ORANGE & BLUE, ORGANIC FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS & ELEGANT TOUCHES.BEFORE THE RING. Megan Hughes and Dave Johnson’s love story began one fateful day at a Cincinnati restaurant while they were both doing interfaith peace and justice work in the city. Dave had arrived fashionably late to meet with a visiting staff group from out of town when he made serendipitous eye contact with Megan. After the meeting, Megan and Dave engaged in flirtatious banter and soon enough were making plans to meet for drinks. The rest is history, as the dynamic duo spent the next few years traveling and falling in love before permanently settling in Cincinnati.

THE PROPOSAL. While visiting Megan’s family in California, Dave orchestrated a mock beach gathering at sunset with friends who “had to cancel.” After telling Megan about the supposed change of plans, he suggested they take a walk. Eventually, Dave picked up a piece of driftwood and drew two lines in the sand. One represented his life and the other, Megan’s. He then extended the lines until they joined in a circle, noting that he and Megan strengthened each other. “I didn't know he was proposing until he got down on one knee with the ring,” Megan says.

THE CEREMONY. Since Dave is Catholic and Megan is Protestant, the couple wanted to incorporate elements from their respective religions to create a reverent and romantic ceremony. “We were both very invested in making sure the ceremony was authentic to our faiths and, at the same time, welcoming to our friends and family from all faith backgrounds,” Megan explains. The couple had several friends read during their ceremony and were both walked down the aisle with their respective parents. It was the perfect beginning to their life as husband and wife.

THE DAY & DESIGN. From start to finish, Megan and Dave’s nuptial celebration was a reflection of their personalities and passions. The laidback couple created a joyful atmosphere with a striking palette of blue and orange, and punctuated their decor with sweetly personal elements and vintage details. “We found an old blue door and strung our place cards on orange ribbon against it,” Megan says. Additionally, the poetry loving pair placed copies of their favorite poems at each place setting. In lieu of a traditional guest book, they set up Adirondack chairs and markers, and guests decorated the chairs with love wishes.
