that you do apart from the presence of God.

Jesus answered him...For God so loved the

world that he gave his only Son, so that

everyone who believes in him may not per-

ish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God

demn the world, but in order that the world

I’VE BEEN THINKING… …about an intriguing phenomenon

concerning religion in our culture. Polls and surveys show that while many peo-ple are indifferent or even hostile to ‘organized religion’, they are attracted toward the person of Jesus. They ad-mire and respect Jesus; and they do so despite organized Christianity’s mis-takes and flaws. Rompin’ Ronnie Haw-kins the rock-a-billy star of a generation ago kind of summed it up when he said, “I got no problem with the Al-mighty. It’s his ‘ground-crew’ I can’t figure out.”

Well friends, we’re Jesus’ ground crew. So let’s continue to learn and get tight with Him – to know all we can, and then follow and imitate Him as closely as possible.

Today we’re starting a series of sermons about ‘Encounters With Jesus’. Philip Yancey says “No one who meets Jesus ever stays the same…. He is bril-liant, creative, challenging, fearless, compassionate, unpredictable, and ulti-mately satisfying. He has made me ask hard questions about why those of us who bear his name don’t do a better job of following him.”

EXACTLY. So let’s maximize the connection we have with Jesus, and the impact He has on our lives. It is incredi-ble to comprehend the impact that one person, leading a small group of twelve people for three short years, has had on our world. His impact, over 2000

World Food Day Created by FAO to commemorate its founding in Quebec City, Oct 16, 1945. Goal is

to free humanity from hunger and malnutrition, and to manage the global food sys-

tem.

2016 - Year of the Pulse - nutritious dried seeds (beans, peas, lentils). As alterna-

tives to animal based products, they are high in fiber and vitamins, provide amino

acids and are packed with proteins (twice the amount found in wheat and triple the

amount found in rice). It takes just 43 gallons of water to produce one pound of

pulses compared to 216 for soybeans, 368 for peanuts, and 465 for beef. A wise

choice for small-scale farmers as part of the crop rotation, pulses improve soil fertility

with their nitrogen fixing properties. This increases crop yield and eliminates the

need for expensive petroleum based fertilizers.

Conservation Agriculture: A Game Changer

Jane, a small scale farmer on about an acre, has become a “success story”, one of

many. Conservation Agriculture has reduced the hunger months (not enough food)

from 5 or 6 to 1 or even 0. She has moved from bare subsistence to having a surplus

for market. With her earnings, she is able to feed her family, send her kids to school,

and start a business!

The efforts of the CFGB have shown these positive results. But the need is great.

Canada has an important role to play but the allocation to international government

aid has declined. We need to encourage increasing support for agriculture especially

to the critically important small scale farmer (September 18, 2016)

Conservation Agriculture

Minimal soil disturbance (15cm x 15cm)

Permanent organic soil cover using mulch

Diversified crop rotation and inter-cropping with

legumes

With the recent retirement of our organ-

ist & choir director, the Board of WSUC

formed a task force to investigate all as-

pects of our Music Ministry and to make

evidence based recommendations to the

Board by December 2016.

In order for the Task Force to gather in-

formation from as many people as possi-

please respond. We want to make sure

everyone’s voice is heard.

1. How does the music ministry at your

service enhance your ability to wor-

ship & experience God?

2. How could the music ministry better

enhance your worship experience?

3. Do you have additional suggestions

or comments about the music minis-

try at the service that you

attend?

Your written response can be dropped off

in the church office, OR hand it to one of

the ministers (Katie & Orville), OR submit

your thoughts via e-mail to Anne McFar-

Force at:

Sierra Leone Sunday, October 16, 2016 Wellington Orphanage continues:

OUR KIDS ARE GROWING UP……….. Our missionary Jan interviewed 50 of our post-secondary stu-dents ~ she asked, “What blessings have you experienced growing up in the or-phanage?”

We are family, we act as one and there is love in the home. Pastor Mansaray is our Daddy and the staff our Aunts and Un-cles. We know Jesus and we are taught God’s ways. I have

given up the revenge and I am healing from trauma. I have learned to show love. We had food and medicine. They made sure we got an education. NOTE: even though orphans must leave the orphanage at 18, Pastor does his best to support them, with advice, some funds and always allows them to come “home”… the orphanage is a port in the storm for each of them.

Jan asked, “What advice would you give to new orphans coming in?” Believe in Jesus and accept Him as your Savior Love each other, comfort and encourage each other Be obedient to the staff and older orphans, the Bible tells us to obey our parents;

it is hard when you are little, but it will get easier Study hard and listen to advice Learn to be kind, not mean Study God’s Word Learn to be strong, persevere and be determined Have ambitions, be self-reliant Focus on education

The Director of the School of Theology where some of our students attend says that he is impressed with the students from Wellington; they have strong characters and are serious about their studies.

They want to succeed! Twelve of our students started a savings and loan club, with a donation of $2000 US. All savings and loan repayments are up to date.

We hope to help a group set up a bakery business and provide a sponsorship program through our church. Please pray that God will make a way…………..

God continues to pour out so many blessings on the Friday Night Community. Isn't it amazing that we have the privilege of joining together as faith groups, organizations and people in our community to share our time, resources and talents with others. We con-tinue to be thankful that we have the finan-cial and food donations that allow us to feed over 250 people each week. What a blessing it is to meet so many different people, and to share life's ups and downs together. Whether we come to peel potatoes, put food on a plate, or receive the food that has been prepared, we all have a need that is being met. So thankful that God has chosen us to support and care for one another through a smile, hug or listening ear. We have so much to be thankful for!! Most needed items: *snacks for children's lunches (fruit cups, pudding, cookies & crackers, apple sauce...) *plastic spoons for children's lunch bags *double bed (frame, mattress & bedding) *small kitchen table w/ 4 chairs *boy bedroom decorations *winter coats/snow pants (clean please) *all sizes of gently used winter boots *all sizes of running & street shoes *boys size 5-14 & youth clothing *adult plus size clothing *diapers and pull-ups size 4-6 *body wash, shampoo, feminine products *desserts for Friday meals (nut free) *salad bar toppings (pickles, olives, sunflow-er seeds, salad dressings, etc.) For information contact: [email protected]

years later, is more profound on the day-to-day lives of people –believers or not- than the impact of any other per-son at any point in history.

Most people today don’t realize that things we now take for granted, like education and health care, were reserved for the rich elite in the ancient world until Christ followers insisted on providing them for everyone within reach. Many imagine that Christianity was bad for women, whereas early Christianity provided the biggest trans-formation of attitudes to women the world has ever seen.

The impact of Jesus on the whole world, even when his followers have been muddled or misguided, towers breathtakingly over all human achieve-ments.

Jesus changed the life of every person he met in the Gospels through powerful experiences and words that led them to unexpected and transform-ing moments.

In the weeks ahead we’ll examine Jesus ‘encounter’ with a charismatic popular prophet (John the Baptist), some ‘sketchy’ despised business guys (Levi & Zaccheus), a woman caught in adultery (John 8), and others. Today we begin with Nicodemus, a powerful authority who was also a furtive follow-er of Jesus. I hope these encounters with Jesus are life changing and life-giving to you, too. With love, ORVILLE
