MUSICAL RESPONSE
CALL TO CONFESSION AND PRAYER OF CONFESSION Pam Emslie
God our Sovereign, we long for your coming. Though we have heard Mary’s song, we still seek security in power and possessions. We are anxious about our world, its direction, its leaders, its people. We seek your wisdom, and we yearn for your peace. (silence)
Christ our Savior, you are born into all of our human vulnerability. Though we know your way, we resist following you. We pass by those considered lowly in this world. We turn away from hungry people who still wait to be filled. We assume justice will come, without our investing in the process. Forgive us, we pray. (silence)
Holy Spirit, our Wisdom, help us notice the things that you would notice. Help us love those you would love. Help us work for the justice you would create. Make us messengers of the peace you bring. As we wait for you, turn our angst into action, our fear to love and our apathy into service. (Silence)
SUNG RESPONSE NO. 103 “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” verses 1 & 3 STUTTGART Come, thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set thy people free:
From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in thee
Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth thou art;
Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.
We sing and pray in the name of the coming one, AMEN.
ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE
The peace of Christ be with you. . . .and also with you.
*PASSING THE PEACE
SUNG RESPONSE NO. 103 “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” verses 3 & 4 STUTTGART
Born thy people to deliver, Born a child, and yet a king,
Born to reign in us forever, Now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone:
By thine all sufficient merit Raise us to thy glorious throne. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Liz Garrigan-Byerly, Jodi Hitzhusen LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
*CLOSING HYMN NO. 120 “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” MENDELSSOHN *BENEDICTION POSTLUDE AND DISMISSAL “From Heaven Above to Earth I Come” Garth Edmundson At conclusion of the postlude, ALL ARE INVITED TO share in refreshments and conversation in Village Common, located through the doors nearest the pulpit. Your checks may be made payable to Wellesley Congregational Church or Wellesley Village Church, either name will be accepted by the bank and Fidelity. Our Church Covenant
We are banded together as a Christian Church
to maintain the worship of God,
to proclaim the gospel of Christ,
to develop in all people a consciousness of their relations and duties
to God and to each other, and
to inspire them with love for truth, passion for righteousness,
and enthusiasm for service.
To this end we pledge our loyalty to Christ and covenant with each
other
to express God’s spirit in our individual and corporate life;
to live together as Christians and to submit ourselves to the
government of this Church,
working, giving, praying for its increase, its purity, its peace,
and seeking in every way to make it a power
