Who's that deacon up there? I'll bet those of you who have returned to mass and have seen me either at daily mass or this weekend are wondering, "Now who is that?" Well, my name is Deacon Scott Miller. I was just ordained to the transitional diaconate (on the way to

the priesthood) this May 28th, and as a seminarian, I am given the privilege to gain pastoral experience by spending my summers in various parishes in our diocese. This summer I am with you under Father Paul's wing. A little about myself I grew up in Sioux Falls and attended Saint Lambert Parish throughout childhood. My parents are Todd and Linda Miller, and I have two older brothers, Ryan and Chad. Both live in the Twin Cities. Growing up, I loved playing the trumpet and was in every band ensemble I could get involved with- marching band, jazz band, symphonic band, pep band, etc. I was also a basketball fanatic for most of my childhood, dreaming of one day playing in the NBA. I switched gears to playing tennis all four years of high school on the varsity team for Washington High School. The Priesthood? The thought of the priesthood came up often from an early age (around 8 or 9). I thought I successfully eradicated it, but between the uncertainty I had regarding my decision to study biology on the pre-physical therapy route and the rather surprising desire to serve God in the priesthood, God found a way to open my heart. During my first year of college, through the prompting and encouragement of three priests, I discovered that not only was God calling me to be a priest- He could actually make me happy by following Him on this path! The full story can be told at a different time, but I want you to know how grateful I am to be a part of your parish family this summer. Thanks for welcoming me in, and I hope to get to know you in the measure

that this summer allows.

We thank you for your support for Church of St. Mary

Legion of Mary The Rosary is prayed at 8:35 am before the 9:00 am Sunday Mass each week. Please join us in prayer.

St. Mary Church is again taking part in a stewardship project during the month of June for the Perpetual Adoration Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament who reside at Mater Ecclesiae Monastery on the grounds of our Cathedral. Due to the current health concerns, we will collect monetary donations or gift cards to Hy-Vee, Walmart, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or gas rather than grocery and personal items. Checks should be written payable to St. Mary Church with “Cathedral Sisters” written in the memo. These can placed in the collection basket (preferably in an envelope marked Cathedral Sisters) or mailed to the church. Envelopes will be provided near the offering bas-ket. We will publish a report at the end of June with the total amount collected. Thank you for your generosity! St Vincent de Paul: In the Gospel today, we hear Jesus say: “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” This week, know that you will be bringing hope to the poor by your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Call 332-1493 if you are interesting in personally helping the needy in Sioux Falls.
