THE IMPORTANCE OF A WELL-BORN BABY:1.It contributes to the satisfaction ad happiness of the mother as well as the entire family

2.It contributes to the emotional, economic and moral stability of the child.

3.It gives a feeling of satisfaction and contentment to the parents and other members of the family.

4.It is a source of family pride.5.It keeps the couple free from

inconveniences caring for the babies with abnormalities and illness.

1. HEAD IS TOO LARGE IN PROPORTION TO THE BODY.2. BODY IS SMEARED WITH MUCUS WHICH MAKE IT SLIPPERY WHEN HANDLED.3. HEAD MAY BE A BIT OUT OF SHAPE BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE DURING DELIVERY.4. THE SKIN OF THE NEW BORN IS SOFT, OF DEEP PINK COLOR AND BLOTCHY.5. THE CHEST IS SMALL, AND NARROW AND THE ABDOMEN IS LARGE.

6. THE EYES ARE CLOSED MOST OF THE TIME.7. THE LIPS ARE LARGE WITH LITTLE OR NO CHIN.8. THE NOSE LOOKS FLAT AND BROAD.9. THE GENITALS APPEAR TO BE LARGE BUT WILL BECOME NORMAL AS BABY DEVELOPS.10. ITS UMBILICAL CHORD PROTTRUDES FROM THE NAVEL UNTIL SIX TO FEW DAY AFTER BIRTH, WHEN IT DROPS AFTER IT HAS HEALED.

Cell begins to divide. While zygote is splitting into new cells it moves through the fallopian tube towards the uterus. By the end of second week zygote implants itself to uterine wall.

EMBRYONIC STAGEa)After the second week embryo begins to

take nourishment from the placenta

through the umbilical cord.b)Amniotic sac is developing into a

protective chamber and after eight weeks

completely surrounds the embryo.c) By the end of the third week embryo’s

heart is beating and nervous system is already

developed.d)After eight weeks all major body organs

are developed.

FETAL STAGEa. During the 3rd and 4th month, the fetus

begins to move.b. After 5 months, skin of the fetus is fully

developed and half nails and sweat glands can be seen.c. At eight months, mothers abdomen stop

enlarging and fetal movement slows down.d. Two weeks before birth fetus will drop into

the pelvic cavity and will usually take a more fixed

position with the head down in preparation for delivery.

1. SKIN CARE : careful attention must be given to the delicate skin of the baby. At birth it is covered with sebaceous material. To remove, rub a little oil and wipe and quickly as possible. Follow with warm bath.

2. Care of the Navel : after birth the baby’s navel or umbilical cord should be covered by a sterile dressing and held in place by binder.

3. ClothingThe baby’s garment should be soft, comfortable, easy to wash and most of all easy to change. They must be styles in such as way that baby can move freely.

4. Feeding

a. Breast feed: is most economical and safest, easily and available and nutritious laden method.b. Bottle-feed or mix feed: when mother is ill specially with

infectious disease. Or in the case of inverted nipples.

Baby must fed at regular intervals and care must be taken so that all the supplies, materials and equipment used are clean and sanitary.
