Welcome to Waterside Arts Centre for what promises to be a busy and very exciting Autumn and Winter programme.
We’ve got a host of household names from the music world taking to the stage this season. Take your pick from Dr Feelgood, Bad Manners, Ian McCulloch, Hugh Cornwell or the legendary Geno Washington. And while they’re not Morrissey and Co, The Smiths Ltd are the nearest you’re going to get to the real thing for a long while!
Theatre treats include a dark tale of love and resilience in Raymondo by Annie Siddons, whilst a lighter side of life plays out in Jana & Heidi, a warm and funny exploration of the mother/daughter relationship. Doug Allan, wildlife cameraman extraordinaire visits in November for a memorable trip through his incredible body of TV work.
A packed family programme reaches its climax in our very special Christmas show, Moominland Midwinter. Pick up our Families Brochure or go to watersideartscentre.co.uk for more details of this and all our wonderful family shows.
Comedy fans won’t be disappointed: Terry Christian, Fred MacAulay and Mitch Benn tread the boards to make us chortle, while Buzz comedy keeps on pleasing the crowds on the first Saturday of the month.
Waterside Arts Centre also continues to cement its reputation as a centre of excellence within the creative industries, with what is a unique and seminal exhibition of the work of one of the UK’s leading animation companies: Mackinnon and Saunders’ showcase of their work and working methods shouldn’t be missed.
We look forward to seeing you this Autumn!

THE SMITHS LTDSaturday 26 September Doors 7.30pm | £10 Adv (Door price £12)A standing show
Being the only Smiths tribute band from and based in Manchester, The Smiths Ltd have an authenticity that’s hard to beat. In fact, the band uses the same guitars, bass, amps and drum kit that The Smiths used on their very last tour.
It’s unlikely that The Smiths will ever play live again and certainly not with the passion and energy of that brief period between 1983 and 1987. The Smiths Ltd are the closest you’ll get to experiencing that live charge of Morrissey, Marr and Co live on stage.

SIMON MAYOR AND HILARY JAMESWednesday 16 September 7.30pm | £14 / £7 (Under 16s)
Simon’s inimitable brand of off-the-wall humour as well as mandolin, guitar and fiddling wizardry meets Hilary’s ‘honey-dripping’ vocals and unusual basses. If you’ve heard them on Radios 2 and 3 and Classic FM, you’ll know just what a treat you have in store. Everything from beautiful folk ballads to lively mandolin tunes, as well as some of their hilarious children’s songs, reminiscent of Hilaire Belloc’s ‘Cautionary Tales’... and a step dance (if Hilary has any breath left!).

TERRY CHRISTIAN’S THE NAKED CONFESSIONS OF A RECOVERING CATHOLICFriday 11 September 8pm | £14 / £12
From the streets of inner-city Manchester to the boulevards of Beverly Hills, Terry Christian’s debut stand-up show, takes a snapshot of life, overlooked by an all-seeing, and often unforgiving, God.
This hilarious romp through the guilt-ridden, and occasionally dark, realms of life is another brave step for Terry. He brings all the maverick qualities that made him a media bête noire in the ’90s, via C4’s The Word, to deliver an honest, funny and sometimes profound stand-up performance.

Back on the road again after 18 years at BBC Radio Scotland, Fred looks back on family life at home... and forward to how his country will shape up after the referendum of 2014. He’ll probably also look sideways at politics, sport, the environment and there’ll undoubtedly be a colour supplement-like look at ‘celebrity’.
