Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour- NZ, June 15th screening in Timaru The Banff Mountain Film Festival is the largest, and one of the most prestigious, mountain festivals in the world. Hot on the heels of the festival held every autumn in Banff, Canada the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits the road. With stops planned in about 550 locations across 45 countries around the globe, this year’s tour features a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental, and adventure films from the festival. From approximately 360 films entered into the annual festival, the world’s best mountain films are chosen to travel the globe.

Munich - Venice Dream Path (Traumpfad München – Venedig) Hike from the Bavarian capital of Munich to Venice and traverse the Bavarian/Austrian Alps and the Dolomites. The “Traumpfad - Dream Path” is an

unforgettable journey for long-distance hikers. It takes only four weeks to walk from the eastern Alps to the fantastic Adriatic coastline. Brod and Sue completed this hike in July 2018.

Our meetings are held from February through to November in the Police Social Room, North Street, Timaru (Top floor of the Police station, access via back door adjacent to the vehicle entrance on North Street).

ROGUE ELEMENTS: CORBET’S COULOIR (2017, USA, 4 minutes) Filmmaker: Teton Gravity Research, Todd Jones Anyone who has ever skied or snowboarded Jackson Hole knows just how nerve-racking it can be to send it into the infamous Corbet’s Couloir, even in the best of conditions. Doing it in icy conditions on mountain bikes is nothing short of insane, and that’s exactly what we did.

Job Vacancy – Supervisor Search and Rescue and Recreation/Historic Supervisor, Search and Rescue and Recreation/Historic (Permanent), Operations Group, Aoraki/Mount Cook, Band D

Are you someone who loves the mountains, has lots of practical skills and enjoys leading and working with people? If yes, then this is the job for you.

We have a supervisor vacancy for a mountaineering and recreation professional with an interest in alpine rescue to lead our ranger team in Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park.

This position is a permanent position subject to performance conditions. There will be a performance review at the end of each season to ensure competency is being maintained to the requirements of the SAR competency system. This competency needs to be achieved to maintain your employment. This is a unique work environment and requires a high level of fitness and capability to be maintained. The yearly assessment is required due to the high-risk nature of SAR work and the need to ensure competency is achieved and maintained to address health and safety requirements.

A significant part of the role will be supervision of staff, and management of the recreation and search and rescue programmes, including:

• Supervision of the team to ensure effective integrated delivery of conservation work • Manage the search and rescue training program and maintenance of competencies • Contribute to the strong safety-first environment • Planning and scheduling of work • Manage the duty officer roster system • Undertake fire control and be a member of the Aoraki FENZ Fire brigade

As a Department of Conservation Supervisor, based in Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park, you will be involved in leadership of the two alpine rescue teams responsible for undertaking search and rescue operations on a rostered basis.

We are looking for a responsible and reliable team player, who is not afraid of hard work, and has the following skills:

• Personal foundation skills – climbing competency to a high skill level with demonstrated experience and currency. Attestation based on current climbing logbook and verification

• Alpine terrain skills must include: o NZMSC Avalanche 2 (or equivalent) o NZMGA Guiding qualification (Summer/Winter 1) o Capable of alpine grade 3 (minimum) o Capable of rock grade 16 on traditional gear (minimum) o Pre-Hospital Emergency care (or equivalent) qualification

• Good communication skills and an ability to get on and motivate people

• Valid Driver's Licence • Experience in work planning and supervision/leading staff • Experience/knowledge of working with helicopters, 4WD vehicles and other field-based equipment

Desirable qualifications include:

• Rescue and /or full guiding qualifications – e.g. IFMGA • Tertiary relevant qualification • Advanced First Aid/medical qualifications
