*CALL TO WORSHIP (11:00) Hittle Family

People of God, prophets like Habakkuk

pointed to a future hope – to a Savior.

No one knew when the Savior would come.

The people of Israel watched,

hoping they would recognize the Messiah, the Son of God.

As we begin our Advent pilgrimage, we watch for the One

who hasalready come – the One who will come again.

(the first candle is lighted)

In our Advent worship, in our Advent living, we watch for you,

O God.

Come, Lord Jesus! Let us worship God!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, we do not keep watch for you.

We occupy ourselves with our own concerns.

We do not notice the needs of the people around us.

We do not acknowledge the love that is shown to us.

Forgive us our lack of watchfulness.

In these Advent days,

help us to look out for the needs of others.

Help us to work and watch for your coming.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

*SILENCE FOR PERSONAL PRAYER AND

REFLECTION

*DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

Sisters and brothers watch with expectation!

Watch for the fulfillment of God’s vision!

Let your praises rise up to the heavens!

Hear and believe the good news:

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Alleluia! Amen!

Chancel Choir

Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing, “My God and King!”

The heav’ns are not too high, God’s praise may thither fly;

The earth is not too low, God’s praises there may grow,

Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing, “My God and King!”

Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing, “My God and King!”

The church with psalms must shout: no door can keep them

out.

But, more than all, the heart must bear the longest part.

Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing, “My God and King!”

MUSIC IN WORSHIP

Kenneth Leighton was a British musician with an impressive list of

original works (just shy of 100) and a history of working in musical

academia, having held positions at the Universities of Leeds,

Oxford, and Edinburgh. His setting of Let all the world in every

corner sing features the best of bold 20th century British choral

counterpoint - blaring organ, a mixed meter, and highly rhythmic,

accented content for all musicians involved.

Christmas Eve – December 24 We celebrate the birth of a baby in Bethlehem.

4pm

Children and youth choirs will lead us in worship

for all generations.

7pm

A quiet, candlelight communion service.

10:30pm

A musical prelude will begin the 11pm candlelight service.

What’s Next?

Sunday Worship

December 9 – The reading is from the Book of Esther. This is

one of the two books in scripture that do not mention God. So

what does that have to do with Jesus? The word for the day is

WAIT.

December 16 – is the third Sunday of Advent. The word for the

day is PROMISE and the prophet Isaiah will remind us how long

the Jews had been waiting for their Messiah. Our Chancel Choir

will join with orchestra and present Rutter’s Gloria to move us

toward the birth of our Savior.

December 23 – We leave the prophets and move to the Gospel of

Matthew to hear the story of Joseph. The man found himself in a

real pickle and yet managed to do the right thing. Our word for

the day is TRUST.

December 30 – Christmas continues as we celebrate the 1st

Sunday of Christmas. We remain with Matthew’s version of the

Christ story and sing some of the carols we missed earlier.
