This Wine and Art trail is an authentic meet-the-maker experience. Discover the creative talent behind family owned and operated wineries, handcrafted products and stunning artistic works. As part of the trail experience you will travel off the beaten track through some of the Swan Valley’s most picturesque and rustic landscapes, located at the foothills of the Darling Scarp.When visiting these family owned wineries, you will gain an insight into the commitment and challenges associated with handcrafting premium wines from the vineyard to the bottle. For many, the next generation are now bringing their own expertise and ideas. Meanwhile, a visit with our artists will enable you to get up close and personal with truly unique works of art. Bespoke and architectural sculptures and artworks crafted from forged iron, steel and copper, which are sought after by collectors from around the world.

Getting startedGetting started on your Wine and Art, Off the Beaten Track Adventure.If you are approaching the Swan Valley from Roe or Reid Highways, your Wine and Art journey starts with The Sculptor Ron Gomboc at Gomboc Gallery Sculpture Park (1) and finishes with The Wizard of Fire Antonio Battistessa at Battistessa Studio (8).

If you are arriving from Gnangara Road commence the trail at Swan Valley Wines (7) and finish at Garbin Estate Wines (2).

1. GOMBOC GALLERY SCULPTURE PARK

Gomboc Gallery Sculpture Park founded in 1982 is the oldest privately-owned gallery and sculpture park in Western Australia. Talented sculptor Ron Gomboc and his wife Terrie are recipients of numerous awards that recognise their community spirit and dedication to the artist community all over the world.Visitors today can immerse themselves in the outdoor sculpture display spread over 4.5 hectares and an indoor gallery comprising five large exhibition spaces that feature the works of established and emerging artists of all disciplines.

2. GARBIN ESTATE WINESEstablished in 1956, this family-owned winery produces award winning boutique white, red and Fortified wines with fruit sourced from their Swan Valley and Gingin vineyards, grown with low chemical inputs, pesticide free and vegan friendly. Winemaker Peter Garbin, wife Katrina and sons Joel and Adam have a philosophy of hands on winemaking specialising in “methode traditionelle” sparkling made from Chardonnay (and gold leaf), Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Rose, and Merlot. Visitors can experience personalised service and hospitality with a wine tasting in the spacious cellar door.

3. WINDY CREEK ESTATEEstablished by Ante Cobanov in 1937, Windy Creek Estate is a niche boutique winery nestled at the base of the Darling Escarpment with one of the Swan Valley’s most impressive vistas. Family owned and operated for over 80 years, it is not unusual to see third and fourth generation working together. Third generation winemaker Tony Cobanov has developed a reputation for producing fine wines using modern and traditional winemaking techniques and sustainable practices. The focus is single vineyard estate grown wines-crisp white styles, reds that are earthy and well balanced and rich Fortified styles. Tony and his wife Ruth invite you to enjoy their friendly hospitality and a wine tasting to remember.

4. FIG TREE ESTATELloyd and Jacqueline Jenkins pride themselves on excellent customer service and invite visitors to taste a range of traditionally-made small batch wines, and handcrafted beer and cider, full of unique character. You can also meet resident Labradors Ruby and Marley and Monte the cat. The cellar door opened in 2014 but the property’s fig tree has been around for more than 100 years. Lloyd grows most of his own grapes, handpicking, basket pressing and open fermenting his wines the traditional way. Reds and Chardonnay are aged in oak resulting in fine wines of great structure and flavour.

6. TYLER’S VINEYARDOwners Colin and Donelle Tyler welcome you to share their lifestyle, passion for wine and love of animals. BATTISTESSA STUDIONinety-year-old Carmela Battistessa lovingly nurtures the gnarly old vines and gardens she established with her late husband.Carmela’s oldest son, Antonio, helped by his family, set up the studio some 40 years ago. Both the studio and sculptural garden continue to evolve as Antonio forges and fashions both iron and wood into surrealistic sculptures which grace cathedrals, restaurants, private collections and public art around the world. Antonio crafts exquisite boards that are used by chefs, cooks and passionate foodies in many countries and his paintings are sought after by fine art collectors.

7. SWAN VALLEY WINESEstablished in 1986 by Peter and Paula Hoffman, Swan Valley Wines is a family business run by second generation wine grower Paul Hoffman. Paul and partner Bree are focused on sustainability in their non-certified organic estate vineyard and practice natural winemaking techniques in the cellar. All their wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and do not contain enzymes or other chemical additions of any kind including sulphites.Organic skincare, figs, olive oil, preserves and other seasonal produce also available.

Getting AroundThe Swan Valley is located a short 25 minute drive from the Perth CBD and 20 minutes from Perth Airport. One of the best ways to explore the Wine and Art, Off the Beaten Track Trail is to self-drive.

Should you require a hire car, collection points are conveniently located at Perth Airport and a variety of Perth CBD locations.

You might like to consider booking a rideshare service or taxi to transport you around the trail.
