UPDATE ON COVID-19 PROTOCOLS FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO

2 | Welcome to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Archdiocese of Chicago is continuing to monitor and follow the guidance of public health authorities in an effort to keep all staff, workplaces and communities safe from COVID-19 infec-tion. While the course of the pandemic has been unpredictable, cases are again on the rise. Therefore, the counties and Chicago’s Departments of Public Health, consistent with IDPH and the

CDC, have issued guidelines strongly recommending that all persons, vaccinated or unvaccinated, mask in all indoor public spaces. We will follow this new guidance. Beginning now, it is strongly recom-mended that all persons entering Archdiocesan facilities be masked, regardless of their vaccination status. This applies to parish offices, schools, churches and other public spaces. The Archdiocese will continue to monitor the situation and will reevaluate this policy as conditions and pub-lic health guidance warrants it. It is all our hope and our prayer that measures taken now (and scrupulously applied) will enable us to adopt a mask-optional policy for vaccinated persons in the future.

Note to self: Remember to pick-up some dried

or canned goods this week for Lakeview Pantry and bring to church next Sunday,

August 21st.

Due to a previously scheduled wedding rehearsal, the Thursday evening Adora-tion (5:30 PM) and Mass (6:00 PM) is cancelled this week (Aug. 19). Thurs-day evening Adoration and Mass will be held on Aug. 26th and Sept. 2nd. After Labor Day, we will no longer hold our Thursday evening Adoration and Mass.

We are pleased to announce the return of our 9:30 AM Mass on Sundays (Family Mass/Children’s Liturgy of the Word)*. Beginning the weekend of September 12th, our Sunday liturgy schedule will be :

8:00 AM

( note change from 8:30 AM)

NEW MASS SCHEDULE BEGINNING 9/12

Join us on Sunday, August 29th, at 1 pm in the Parish Ministry Center for a discussion of The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lew-is. If you still have questions about the stock market crash of 2008, this book and discussion is for you. Michael Lewis provides riveting sto-ries of how a few professional inves-tors foresaw the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage market and then made millions by betting on the hous-ing crash. Lewis’s writing reads like a financial thriller illustrating Wall Street’s greed, risk-taking, deception, and hubris and reminds of what can happen when buyers fail to heed the age-old advice, “let the buyer beware.”

From the Music Director..... After nearly a year and a half of silence how good it will be to have our choirs back, bringing beauty and inspiration to our litur-gies. These weeks of summer provide the perfect opportunity to look ahead to the fall season when the Choir of Mount Carmel (Morning Choir) will again be leading our congregation in glorious praise of God. I would like to take the opportunity to in-vite men and women from our community to consider membership in the parish choir. Voices in each choral section (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) are welcome. Experienced singers are encouraged to reach out for more information. The Contemporary Choir begins rehearsals later in the fall to lead song at the Sunday evening 4:30 pm service. This choir sings for the parish celebrations of Ad-vent - Christmastide, takes a hiatus and then returns later in the church year to sing for the Lent - Eastertide liturgies. The Contemporary Choir looks to appeal to those singers who are not seeking a “full-time” commitment. The choir sings a var-ied repertoire of contemporary Catholic, gospel music and spirituals, as well as traditional folk music from many cultures. For more information, contact the mu-sic office. And for our parish’s younger choristers: Our High School & Collegiate Schola, comprised mostly of alums from our Tre-ble and Junior choirs, sing once a month on Saturday evenings.

Our parish Treble Choir is open to students in grades 4-8, who attend Mt. Carmel Academy as well as other local public and private schools. (Treble choirs comprise young voices, both boys and girls, taking the higher parts, usually the soprano and alto parts.) The choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons and sings for parish lit-urgies monthly. Rehearsals are spent both learning the liturgical repertoire, but lessons in music theory and voice are also part of the curriculum. Vacancies are now being filled – for a free vocal assessment, or more information call the music director, without obligation. The Junior Choir is open to students in grades 1-3, who attend Mt. Carmel Acade-my as well as other local public and private schools. As with the Treble Choir, a portion of our Wednesday rehearsals will be spent learning how to sing correctly and produce a healthy tone, learning notes and clefs, and of course having fun sing-ing beautiful music. Vacancies are now being filled – for a free vocal assessment, or more information call the music director, without obligation.

Be assured that, as we move to the end of this pandemic, that temporary safeguards are in place regarding masks, ventilation and spacing. Come make music with us! Paul French 872-260-4107 (direct) [email protected]

Dear Parish Family, Today’s gospel passage is one of the most gracious in all of scripture.

When I say the rosary and come to the second joyful mystery, the Vis-

itation, I reflect on the women who provide such incredible examples

to us. The story is filled with Christian virtues.

There is Mary’s selflessness, when upon hearing of Elizabeth’s preg-

nancy, she proceeds in haste to be of assistance to her kinswoman.

Then we see Elizabeth’s warm hospitality as she greets Mary and welcomes her. She

rejoices in Mary’s good fortune in being chosen by the Lord and blesses her. There is no

envy or jealousy in Elizabeth, there is humble joy. Elizabeth’s humility is matched by

Mary’s. She deflects Elizabeth’s praise and compliments by glorifying God and focusing

on His activity rather than her own. Imagine what a wonderful community the Church

could be if we imitated the generosity of spirit of these two women!

God bless you.

Fr. Pat

An Act of Spiritual Communion

When it is impossible to receive the Eucharist, one may pray an Act of Spiritual Communion:

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
