Welcome to the Holy Family Parish Catholic Community Albany, Western Australia
FIRST SUNDAY of LENT - Year A Sunday 1 March 2020
A very warm welcome to everyone in our parish this weekend.
‘ The temptation in the wilderness’…
Human beings live not on bread alone. Exotic, expensive restaurants, wine tasting and dinners with matching wines proliferate. Cooking shows top TV ratings. Food can be an obsession for some, while others struggle to provide meals for their families, and people go hungry.
Do not put the Lord your God to the test. There have been so many deaths on Mount Everest. A seemingly endless line of climbers ascending the mountain, and walking past frozen corpses, shocked viewers. Walkers are lost in bushland or alpine areas, sailors are shipwrecked, often without location devices.
‘The Lord your God . . . Him alone you must serve’. ‘I am the Kings' good servant, but God’s first’. This was St Thomas More’s clear choice. Obsession with amassing fortunes, honours, status and power are more subtle forms of idolatry. Jesus, the evil spirit lacks creativity. He keeps using the same tactics and they work.

SEASONAL PSALM FOR LENT
Be With me Lord Paul Mason
Cantor/Response
Choir: Be with me Lord when I am in trouble Be with me Lord He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High and abides in the shade of the Amighty says to the Lord: “My refuge, my stronghold, my God in whom I trust!”
Choir: Be with me Lord when I am in trouble Be with me Lord
Upon you no evil shall fall, no plague approach where you dwell. For you has he commanded his angels, to keep you, keep you in all your ways.
Choir: Be with me Lord when I am in trouble Be with me Lord
They shall bear you upon their hands lest you strike your foot against a stone. On the lion and the viper you will tread and trample the young lion and the dragon
Choir: Be with me Lord when I am in trouble Be with me Lord
His love he set on me, so I will rescue him; Protect him for he knows my name. When he calls I will answer: “I am with you.” I’ll save him in distress and give him glory.
Choir: Be with me Lord when I am in trouble Be with me Lord
