Steps to earning your GED...

Attending an orientation is the first step. This orientation takes about two hours. We’ll go over how we’ll work with you to earn your GED.

The remaining slides of this presentation show the steps AFTER the orientation as you begin your work.

Locator test - Determines level of TABE assessment you need, or if you can skip TABE assessment all together and go straight to the Official Practice Tests (OPT) during one of our Prove Yourself Days.

TABE assessment/ Diagnostic – Pinpoints students’ strengths & weaknesses in areas of Reading, Math and Language.

Once you have completed your TABE assessment, you will have a conference with our center director to determine your study path and plan the best way forward for you to earn your GED.

If your TABE scores are above a 9.0 level, you can proceed with the Official Practice Tests. You will need to pass all 5 OPTs with a score of 450 or higher in each area before you are eligible to be registered to take the OFFICIAL GED TEST.

If your TABE scores are below a 9.0 level, you will need to work with your academic advisor and discuss which of the four study paths would best suit your needs.

1. Classes are offered in the fall, winter, and spring– all classes are 5 weeks in length. Reading & Writings Workshop on Tuesday &

Thursday mornings and Tuesday afternoons Math on Monday & Tuesday mornings,

Wednesday mornings and afternoons. Science classes are offered on Wednesday

mornings.*Summer & Winter Classes are less often and

change each year. Call our center for more information.

2. Open Lab – independent work in our lab with 1-on-1 help from a staff member as needed. You can also do homework if you like.

3. Online learning with ITTS. This online option is available for a select number of our students who are committed to working regularly online—many cannot make it regularly to our center.

The GED Tests are designed to measure learning generally acquired in a high school course of study.

Scores are determined by administering the test to graduating seniors.

The content is drawn from content taught in high school.
