The fourth collaboration between Gilbert & Sullivan was their first blockbuster hit: "HMS Pinafore", or "The Lass That Loved a Sailor." This opera opened May 28, 1878 at the Opera Comique. It ran for 571 performances and became a huge fad in England, as well as in America, Pinafore is among the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan operas, perhaps because of its infectious tunes and generally well-constructed libretto. Drawing on several of his earlier "bab ballad" poems, Gilbert embued HMS Pinafore with mirth and silliness to spare. Charlotte‟s Reviews: Paul Firman MBE “What a great show Charlotte put on here at Music On The Green, yes I coined the phrase an "upbeat Norah Jones" and listening to her cd's last night I remarked again to my family about it and we all agreed that Charlotte has a great sound. I stood in the "wings" of the stage with Foz from BBC Radio Suffolk as Charlotte was performing on Saturday and we commented on how much stage presence she had got and was a star waiting to burst on to the music scene. We both agreed that she has what it takes, an aura.” Stuart Gordon, Chairman and Musical Director Music On The Green, Martlesham, Ipswich, U.K. “Charlotte Emily headlined the afternoon session at Martlesham’s Music on the Green in Ipswich, England on 10th July 2010. MOTG is a free village festival, organised in conjunction with BBC Radio Suffolk, and has an attendance of 11,00 over the day, and an estimated audience of 3,000 at any one time. Charlotte put on a stunning display, her crisp clear sweet voice enthralling the crowd. This was helped by her summery backing band which with drums, bass and acoustic guitar, was embellished with some lovely muted trumpet. We were delighted to have Charlotte and hope that she will travel the world to play for us again. The comment heard on the day was that she sounded like an “upbeat Norah Jones” summed it up – excellent.”
