The Arkansas River Historical Society seeks to preserve history and insure public awareness of the Arkansas River and the development of its basin. Through the acquisition,

The Arkansas River Historical Society Museum is located in the City of Tulsa – Rogers County Port Authority Building at the

Tulsa Port of Catoosa

The Museum Entrance is in the Port Authority Lobby.

Historical Displays tell the story of the river and the navigation system.

The many benefits of the waterway are emphasized in graphic displays.

There is a working model of a lock & dam.

Exhibits include an overview of the steamboat era and models of modern ocean-going vessels.

Another goal of the Historical Society is to honor those who did so much to make this navigation system a reality. This is also achieved by our annual Arkansas River Hall of Fame awards.

Each year we provide

educational tours for

thousands of students and

adults.

In 2004 a small park and picnic area was created for the convenience of individuals and tour groups.

The Historical Society is the source of exhibits at

the visitor’s center at Lock & Dam 18.

We also have a traveling exhibit we take to

conferences, schools, and international cultural events.

The Charley Border was the Port’s chief workboat for nearly 30 years.

In 2004 it was moved from the channel to dry-dock in preparation for it’s new career.

In 2006, after renovation, it was moved to the educational center site.

It will become the focal point of a new Maritime Educational Center.
