Welcome to the 2015 Minnesota World Savvy Festival!

Mery and Raika, students at Edison High School, were part of a group that focused on human trafficking around the world, and in their Minnesota community. They developed a campaign to bring awareness to the issue, and help educate Minnesotans about how they can help prevent trafficking. 

For many World Savvy students like Mery and Raika, their own rich stories significantly influence their perspectives on these issues.

“We have to stop it by talking to elected officials, and teaching people that an understanding of the issue and awareness about trafficking can help prevent it.”

Isaac and Carlos, students at Edison High School, created a website to showcase the issues around, and linkages between, immigration and poverty. As recent immigrants to the United States, both could relate strongly to the themes of the project. Isaac’s father brought him to the U.S. from Togo to continue his education in the United States, and Carlos traveled here on his own from Ecuador in search of a better life. 

Both students wanted to share their stories in order to shine a spotlight on immigration-related issues, and in the future, Isaac would like to help people in poverty worldwide by identifying ways to create more hospitals and schools.
