This coming weekend, February 29 and March 1, Deacon Mike Mignery, (silent g) from Queen of Peace Parish in Millville, who was with us the first weekend of February, will be here to diaconate. On March 7 & 8 Deacon Mike will be back again, preaching at all the Masses. He will also diaconate the weekend of March 21 and 22 , and be joining us about twice a month. Deacon Mike will be telling us more about himself in future bulletins. (Deacon John Corson has received new duties at his home parish; we will see if he is still able to help us.) FLU SEASON AND THE CHALICE Due to the large number of people suffering from the flu, colds, and other contagious ailments, we have temporarily discontinued offering the Precious Blood to the lay faithful for the time being. We do not yet have a date when we will resume offering it, but it will be when we are certain the flu season is over. We thank you for understanding. PRAY THE ROSARY FOR THE STRENGTHENING AND SUPPORT OF CATHOLIC MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE ON FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020: If you are not aware, we pray the Rosary each Friday (except the First Friday when we have Adoration) after the 8:00 am Mass in church. On Friday, March 20th, we will have a special prayer intention. This intention will be for the strengthening of traditional Catholic marriage. If you are unable to be with us, please pray a rosary at home for this intention. SERVER TRAINING: Boys and girls, entering 4th - 12th grade (or higher), having received their First Holy Communion, and feeling called to serve God in this way, are welcome to attend a training session to become an Altar Server. Meet at the Gathering Desk after the 11am Mass on Sunday, February 23. Training will take about 1 1/2 hours. Lunch is included. Mass Times during Inclement Weather In order to keep you and our community safe during severe winter weather, we will cancel
our weekday Masses whenever the Three River school system is canceled. The Parish Office will open on a delayed status. All meetings and planned activities MAY be canceled as well. Please call the Parish Office at 941-3661 the day of the meeting for updated information.

In today’s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as themselves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that — to give generously to those who ask of us and not to turn our backs on those
who seek to borrow.
The Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra, conducted by Dave Allen, presents "COMING HOME", a program featuring the beautiful and inspiring music of Antonin Dvorak. We welcome professional cellist and Seton graduate Jennifer Higgins Wagner who will perform Dvorak's Cello Concerto. The Three Rivers Women’s Club is offering a scholarship to a qualifying female who is a senior in high school and is pursuing a college education. This is a one time, one year $1,500.00 scholarship. Faith in Action: A Year of Service for Young Adults The Vincentian Volunteers of Cincinnati is a year-long, faith-based, residential program that provides young adults ages 21-30 the opportunity to grow spiritually, socially and professionally. Up to 10 participants serve full-time at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Outreach Center in both direct service and administrative roles, event-planning, and service learning retreat ministry. They live in community, sharing meals, reflection and prayer each week. Leadership development opportunities are provided, including 1:1 professional mentorship. As we do, we find that
Jesus did it all just for us.
GOSPEL: Matthew 5:38-48 This is a continuation of last week’s Gospel in which Jesus changes the way the Jews should live the Torah (the law given to Moses on Mount Sinai). He tells them how disciples should deal with personal offenses: “You have heard it said: ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But what I say to you is this: offer no resistance to one who is evil.” In our efforts to be faithful to this command of the Lord, we should make a distinction between violent and non-violent resistance the latter having been the tactic used very effectively by people like Gandhi and Martin Luther King. We can and should use every kind of non-violent resistance to those who mistreat us. Jesus goes on to say that we must not only love our friends but also our enemies, for God’s light shines on the good as well as the bad. While dying on the cross, Jesus loved his enemies by forgiving them. With God’s grace, we can do the same. Today’s Gospel ends with the words: “Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Here Jesus is holding God’s love up as a model for his disciples love. It is a concluding statement to the words about God al-lowing his sun to shine on the good and the bad. Ash Wednesday
On Ash Wednesday people receive ashes in the form of a cross on their foreheads. The people
who distribute the ashes make the Sign of the Cross and say: Turn away from sin and be faithful to
the gospel [adapted from Mark 1:15] or Remember, you are dust and to dust you will return
[adapted from Genesis 3:19]. The ashes are made from palms left over from the previous year’s
Palm Sunday.
These ashes make us think of death. We are part of this world, and someday we will die. But do
you see how the ashes are being made into crosses? Jesus is more powerful than death! He beat
death when he died on the cross and came back to life! If we love him as our Savior, King, and Friend, we can live with him
now and forever—even after we die! Ashes mean death, but the Jesus on the cross means life!
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, when we dwell in Jesus’s story. We live in his miracles, his love, and his ultimate
sacrifice. At the end of Lent, we celebrate together. Easter is a celebration of Christ’s victory over death and the gift he offers us
is the same—victory over death. On the cross, Christ took our death punishment. Therefore, we live in the hope of heaven. We
know that, because of the cross, we will have the gift of eternal life. That’s the Good News!

Lenten Preparations Prepare a jar for your family, fill it with 40 prayers. Each day, pull one out when the family is to-gether, and pray for that person or intention. This is a great way to emphasize the importance of prayer, and to help your family to get ready for Easter!
Ash Wednesday is February 26th.

Each Wednesday (see below), we will have Mass at 5:30 p.m., followed by a community soup supper, to
end at 6:45p.m. At 7:00p.m., we will gather for either a talk, Taize Prayer or Stations of the Cross, as
indicated.
*It is best to bring soup warm and in a crock pot. We will need 5 types for each
