Welcome to
St Edward the
Confessor Parish 26th—27th May 2018
The Most Holy Trinity
THE NEW APOSTLES By: Fr. Marce Singson
Our Gospel reading this weekend comes the last chapter of St. Matthew
where Jesus brought his eleven apostles to a mountain in Galilee prior to
his ascension into heaven. The text says: “All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Go, therefore and make disciple to all nations;
baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit…..”
This passage is called the Great Commission. It is the final instructive
word from Jesus to His church. Jesus had just risen. The Jews had killed
Him and were equally ready to do away with His disciples. The Roman
empire was a strict ruler that didn't like people causing any problems. The
ruler of the land was Herod. There was a great tension between the Jewish
community and the Roman power system. The Jews wanted to be free
from Roman rule. The Romans wanted this small strange country called
Israel to be peaceful.
The dominant religion in the Roman Empire was emperor worship.
Tiberius Caesar was the ruler from A.D. 14-37. Next was Caligula (37-41),
Claudius (41-54), Nero who persecuted the Christians (54-68). In 70 A.D.,
Jerusalem was besieged by the Romans and the Temple was destroyed. It is
not Christian nation, but only have Christians in them. Its officials were
antagonistic to Christianity. And... it was into this world, that Jesus com-
missioned the disciples. Their commission was difficult....but the eleven
apostles must face it even to death.
The apostles had done their part. We are the new apostles of Jesus and he
wants us to finish what He began. He came to the disciples, taught them,
and worked with them. He then died on the cross and rose from the
dead. But, before He ascended into heaven, He gave them, and us, the
commission to convert the world. He will not ask us to do the impossible.
We need to know that our efforts to honor Christ by obeying His call to
make disciples of all nations is something that you can do. Do it where you
are, with those whom we meet, with those we work with, with those you go
to school with, etc., through our friendliness, kindness, humility, politeness,
patience and our being helpful to them. Let us be witnesses for Jesus in our
lives and when necessary, talk about Him, too.

COME HOLY SPIRIT Come, Holy Spirit, I need you Come, sweet Spirit, I pray Come in your strength and your power Come in your own gentle way Come as a rest to the weary Come as a balm to the sore Come, Lord, as strength to my weakness Fill me with joy evermore Come, Holy Spirit, I need you Come, sweet Spirit, I pray Come in your strength and your power Come in your own gentle way Come like a spring in the desert Come to the withered of soul Lord, let your sweet healing power Touch me and make me whole Come, Holy Spirit, I need you Come, sweet Spirit, I pray Come in your strength and your power Come in your own gentle way Come in your own gentle way

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Every year the SVDP Society organises a
Winter Appeal in every parish throughout
Australia to raise funds to provide the needs of the
poor and marginalised. It is hard to believe that in a
first world country, like Australia, there are over two
million people living below the poverty line, half a
million of whom are children. Sad to say this number
is increasing. Many people are losing their jobs due to
the increased use of technology. The greatest in the
Daisy Hill Community is for food, clothing and furni-
ture. Our conference provides food hampers; client
are given gift cards to purchase clothing at the Vin-
nies Shops and furniture is ordered for them at the
Meadowbrook Depot.
St Edward’s school is having the appeal for our con-
ference on the last three weeks of the school term
(11th June to 29th June). The parish appeal is being
held on the following two weekends: 16/17th June
and 23/24th June. At each of the Masses on these days
envelopes will be placed on the seats and we ask you
to put your donation in the
envelope and seal it. Dona-
tion over $2.00 is tax de-
ductable. We ask you to
give generously and come
prepared knowing that you
are living the Corporal
Works of Mercy; Feed the
hungry, Clothe the naked,
Harbour the homeless.
