What Does it Do?

• Gives you the chance to meet and speak with attendees from other White Rose organisations, which makes it much easier to contact them following the event.

• Allows you to meet as many people as possible in the shortest time and with minimum fuss.

Page 3: Welcome to Speed Networking

How does it work?• Everyone is allocated a colour (see the chart at

the entrance) take a seat at the table with the corresponding colour. This ensures that people from different organisation can meet each other

• A WRAG rep. is allocated to each table.

• When the powerpoint indicates “Go” the WRAG rep. will speak for the first minute.

• The bell rings/ powerpoint changes to “Next”, this signifies that the speaker should stop and the person to the right of the speaker should start.

• And so on until everyone on the table has spoken.

What Should you Say?

• Each person will introduce themselves and speak to their table for one minute only about

(i) your role (ii) anything you do which supports

research or anything research-related you’d like to know more about

(iii) why you’ve come today

At The End of the Session

• Common role themes• Unique roles• If they have any aspirations for their role

These notes will then be displayed for perusal and discussion throughout the day.

Don’t Forget

• Networking will help you to develop contacts• Any successful networker will tell you that the

golden rule in any networking is ‘following up’. • Don’t wait for people to contact you. • Sending people an email is fine, but a phone call

is much friendlier and will ensure you are better remembered.

• Speed networking is most effective in the weeks and months following the event – and if you avoid following up with people, you’ll only have wasted your time.
