  • Bernalillo - This community is the historical center of the State of New Mexico withoccupation reaching back almost a thousand years. Bernalillo progressed from a string ofhaciendas along the river in the 1600's to a commercial center of trade among the pueblosand the Mexican settlers in the 1800's. Today, the town is a place to visit and relaxespecially along the main street, Camino del Pueblo, which is synonymous for its historicalattributes that includes it being the original Route 66 and the famed El Camino Realhighway. This road has rich history , and was the major link that connected SantaFe to Mexico City. It remains one of the oldest historical trails in the UnitedStates. Bernalillo has much to offer in recreation, commerce, and social amenities. It hasthe advantages of larger cities without the strain of urban living. Bernalillo's locationprovides direct access to the Jemez Mountains to the north-west and the Sandia Mountainrange to the south-east, guarantees opportunities for unique and plentiful outdooractivities that is consistent with providing the best in quality of life and family valueopportunities.     Parks and Activities - The area offers a large number of parks and walking paths in thearea. Rio Rancho has sports facilities, dog parks and activity parks that offer a wide range ofactivities. The area also offers a number of walking areas within the high desert and alongthe Rio Grande nature area. Rio Rancho has a facility called the “Park Above”, which is an allinclusive park that is model for parks throughout the Country. As for activities, Rio Ranchohas a wide range of events held at the 6000 seat Santa Ana Star Center. This is a premierfacility that brings in top tier events for the area.
