Bernalillo - This community is the historical center of the State of New Mexico withoccupation reaching back almost a thousand years. Bernalillo progressed from a string ofhaciendas along the river in the 1600's to a commercial center of trade among the pueblosand the Mexican settlers in the 1800's. Today, the town is a place to visit and relaxespecially along the main street, Camino del Pueblo, which is synonymous for its historicalattributes that includes it being the original Route 66 and the famed El Camino Realhighway. This road has rich history , and was the major link that connected SantaFe to Mexico City. It remains one of the oldest historical trails in the UnitedStates. Bernalillo has much to offer in recreation, commerce, and social amenities. It hasthe advantages of larger cities without the strain of urban living.
