DRUNKENNESS


Sin No More… DRUNKENNESS Definition of DRUNKENNESS:

Being in a state in which one’s physical and mental faculties are impaired;

Intoxicated with alcohol to the extent of losing control over normal physical & mental functions

Intoxicated; drunk; inebriated; tipsy; fuddled;

the opposite of sober, being of sound mind

Geneses 19:30-38 –

“So they made their father drink

wine that night. And the firstborn

went in and lay with her father,

and he did not know when she lay

down and when she arose.”



Proverbs on DRUNKENNESS


Proverbs 20:1 –

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink

is a brawler, and whoever is led

astray by it is not wise.”


Proverbs 23:29-35 – “Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?

Those who linger long at the wine, those who go in search of mixed wine.”


Proverbs 31:1-5 –

“It is not for kings to drink wine,

Nor for princes intoxicating drink;

Lest they drink and forget the law,

and pervert the justice of all the

afflicted.”




Prophets on DRUNKENNESS


Isaiah 5:11-12 – “Woe to those who rise early in the

morning, that they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night till wine inflames them!”

Isaiah 28:7-8 – “But they also have erred through

wine, and through intoxicating drink are out of the way”


Hosea 4:11 –

“Harlotry, wine, and new wine

enslave the heart.”





Commanded Not to Drink


Leviticus 10:8-11 – “Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink”

Ephesians 5:15-18 – “Therefore do not be unwise, but

understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”






The End of DRUNKENNESS


I Corinthians 6:9-11 – “Do you not know that the unrighteous

will not inherit the kingdom of God?” “Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”


Galatians 5:19-21 –

“Now the works of the flesh are

evident, which are… envy murders,

drunkenness, revelries, and the like…

that those who practice such things will

not inherit the kingdom of God.”







We Must Walk Soberly


I Peter 4:1-4 –

“For we have spent enough of our past

lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles

– when we walked in lewdness, lusts,

drunkenness, revelries, drinking

parties, and abominable idolatries.”


I Thessalonians 5:1-9 –

“But let us who are of the day be

sober, putting on the breastplate

of faith and love, and as a

helmet the hope of salvation.”


Romans 13:11-14 – “Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.”

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”

Conclusion

Drunkenness is sin & we must treat it that way.

Drunkenness is serious.

Drunkenness separates us from God, from

God’s blessings, and from God’s promises.

Drunkenness will keep us out of heaven. We are to walk soberly and put on the Lord

Jesus Christ, making no provision for the flesh.

Conclusion

Ephesians 5:18 – “ do

not be drunk with wine, in

which is dissipation; but

be filled with the Spirit.”

Hear the Word of God (Romans 10:17) Believe in Jesus (Hebrews 11:6) Repent of Sins (Luke 13:3) Confess Faith in Christ (Matthew

10:32) Be Baptized in Water (Mark 16:16)

Remain Faithful & Grow (Revelations 2:10) If err, repent and pray to God (Acts 8:22)

I Corinthians 11:26 – “In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
