Today we bring to mind that June is ‘Pride Month’ ‐ chosen in commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Riots and uprising

which sparked the modern gay rights movement.

This year, for the first time, the United Church is inviting us to “officially” mark and celebrate Pride Sunday ‐ today ‐ June 2nd.

2019 also marks the 31st anniversary of our Church’s decision to declare that all people, regardless of sexual orientation,

are welcome as full members in the church, and all members are eligible to be ordained, we are invited to celebrate the lives

and ministry of our LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, allied… and many other terms)

and Two Spirit sisters and brothers.

Let us celebrate who each of us is Regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity All are made in the image and likeness of the Divine All of us may not be part of the rainbow community

But we are not apart from it either Let us celebrate holy love

adapted from worship resources for Pride Sunday – united‐church.ca

As the music begins, we are invited to prepare ourselves for worship.

Music to Gather Us Welcome & Announcements ~ Mission Moment Iridesce- The Living Apology Project

Gathering Words ~ Moment to Pause

One: In the dawning; ALL: In the opening of this day: One: New opportunities;

New possibilities; New hope; New joys.

ALL: Love’s presence fills us. The sacred enlivens this place of gathering.

One: God is with us! We are not alone.

ALL: HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH!

As We Sing, the Christ Candle Is Lit a visible reminder that the Light of Love can never be extinguished.

This is the day that God has made;

we will rejoice and be glad! This is the day that God has made;

we will rejoice and be glad! Singing hallelu, singing hallelu, singing hallelu!

We will rejoice and be glad! Singing hallelu, singing hallelu, singing hallelu!

We Gather Together

One: When we love one another; ALL: God is with us. One: When we gather in worship; ALL: God rejoices through us. One: When we seek justice; ALL: God is at work in us. One: God is in us; ALL: As we are in God! Hymn Praise God for This Holy Ground More Voices 42 We are Gathered & Grounded in Prayer

Throughout the gospels we are repeatedly told that after some word or deed of Jesus

“his disciples believed in him.” The point of this statement

is not that up to this point they had no faith, but rather that their faith deepened

with the passage of time. To believe in God

is more than simply profess God’s existence; it is to enter into communion with God and

- the two being inseparable - with our fellow human beings as well.

from the writings of Liberation Theologian, Gustavo Gutierrez

One: When we speak in anger or hatred, and when our words cause division; ALL: deepen our faith and call us back to your way, O God. One: When we treat others with contempt or violence, or simply ignore them; ALL: deepen our faith and call us back to your way, O God. One: When we take more than our share of resources, and others must bear the burden; ALL: deepen our faith and call us back to your way, O God. One: When we do not live in love and peace, choosing instead fear and injustice; ALL: deepen our faith and call us back to your way, O God. One: When we know that you are calling us, and we choose not to follow; ALL: deepen our faith and call us back to your way, O God. One: May we always seek to become one with God and with one another,

building God’s reign of justice, healing, peace, compassion and love. ALL: May it be so!

We pause for a moment as become aware of God’s presence around and within....

We Pause in Prayer

One: Father, Mother, God Thank you for your presence during the hard and mean days, for then we have you to lean upon.

Thank you for your presence during the bright and sunny days, for then we can share that which we have with those who have less.

ALL: And thank you for your presence during the Holy Days, for then we are able to celebrate you and our families and our friends.

One: For those who have no voice, we ask you to speak.

For those who feel unworthy, we ask you to pour your love out in waterfalls of tenderness.

ALL: For those who live in pain, we ask you to bathe them in the river of your healing.

For those who are lonely, we ask you to keep them company.

For those who are depressed, we ask you to shower upon them the light of hope.

One: Dear Creator, You, the borderless sea of substance, we ask you to give to all the world that which we need most—Peace; Love; Hope; Compassion.

We Are Blessed – Called to Be A Blessing

If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in the nations.

If there is to be peace in the nations, there must be peace in the cities. If there is to be peace in the cities,

there must be peace between neighbours. If there is to be peace between neighbours,

there must be peace in the home. If there is to be peace in the home, there must be peace in the heart.

attributed to ancient Chinese philosopher and founder of Taoism, Lao-Tse

One: So, let us go to live in the ways of peace in our lives, our community, our world.

For that is our calling and our work and our ministry. ALL: May it be so! Amen!

We are not alone, we live in God's world. We are not alone, we live in God's world.

In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us, we are not alone.
