O Canada – Common Praise #659

O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The true north, strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, We stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Gathering Song: Good to Me – Craig Musseau © 1990 CCLI # 313480

I cry out for Your hand of mercy to heal me. I am weak, I need Your love to free me. Oh Lord, my rock, my strength in weakness. Come rescue me, oh Lord.

You are my hope, Your promise never fails me. And my desire is to follow You forever. For You are good, for You are good, For You are good to me. For You are good, for You are good, For You are good to me.

Lon: We are claimed as God's own. All: We are called from our darkness into the light of

God's day.

Lon: The Spirit of the Lord renews the face of the earth. O come, let us worship. In the beginning, before time, before people, before the world began,

All: God Was Lon: Here and now, among us, beside us, enlisting the people of

earth, for the purposes of heaven, All: God Is Lon: In the future, when we have turned to dust and all we know

has found its fulfilment, All: God Will Be

Lon: Not denying the world, but delighting in it, Not condemning the world, but redeeming it, Through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit

All: God Was, God Is, God Will Be Glory to the Father and the Son and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

Lon: Let us pray In you, gracious God, the widowed find a carer, the orphaned find a parent the fearful find a friend in you, And if some need to say, "Help me" And if some need to say, "Save me" And if some need to say, "Hold me" And if some need to say, "Forgive me" Then let these be said now in confidence by us.

Moment of silence

Lon: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Great is the Lord and worthy of all praise.

All: Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honour, power and might, be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.

Lon: O Christ, in whose heart is both welcome and warning. Say to us, do to us, reveal within us the things that will make us whole. And we will wait; And we will praise. Amen.

Lon: Prayer of the Day: O Christ for whom we search, our help when help has failed: give us courage to expose our need and ask to be

made whole, so that, being touched by you, we may be raised to new life in the power of your name. Amen.

A Prayer Book for Australia (1995) alt. Prayer for Canada Day: Almighty God, whose wisdom and whose love are over all, accept the prayers we offer for our nation. Give integrity to its citizens and wisdom to those in authority, that harmony and justice may be secured in obedience to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, ow and for ever. Amen.

The Ministry of the Word

Psalm 130 BAS – David Stewart

1 Out of the depths have I called you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice; * let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.

2 If you, Lord, were to note what is done amiss, * O Lord, who could stand?

3 For there is forgiveness with you; * therefore you shall be feared.

4 I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him; * in his word is my hope.

5 My soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning, * more than watchmen for the morning.

6 O Israel, wait for the Lord, * for with the Lord there is mercy;

7 With him there is plenteous redemption, * and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 8:7-15 – David Stewart

7 Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you—so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. 8 I do not say this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love against the earnestness of others. 9 For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. 10 And in this matter I am giving my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something— 11 now finish doing it, so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means. 12 For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has—not according to what one does not have. 13 I do not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you, but it is a question of a fair balance

between 14 your present abundance and their need, so that their abundance may be for your need, in order that there may be a fair balance. 15 As it is written, “The one who had much did not have too much, and the one who had little did not have too little.”

Hear what the Spirit is saying Thanks be to God.

Gradual Song: Be Alright – Evan Craft, Sean Cook, Willy Gonzalez © 2020 CCLI #7160689

There's a name that can silence every fear. There's a love that embraces the heartache the pain and the tears. Through my faith and my doubting, I know one thing for sure: His word is unfailing, His promise secure.

Y todo va a estar bien, everything will be all right. The whole world's in His hands. Your whole world's in His hands. In the darkness and the trials, He's faithful and He is true. The whole world's in His hands. Y todo va a estar bien. Oh-oh oh-oh-oh, Everything will be alright. Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh.

Father You say everything is gonna be alright, But my circumstances say I won't last through the night. I need Your word to hold me now, need You to pull me through. I need miracle, a breakthrough: I need You. They say You hold the whole universe in Your hand, But my world's falling apart like it is made of sand. Am I small enough to slip through the cracks? Can You take my broken pieces and put them back? Give me faith to believe that You are on my side. Open my eyes to see You working in my life. Let the past remind me You never fail. And tell my soul, “It is well.” Oh.

Y todo va a estar bien. Oh-oh oh-oh-oh, Everything will be alright. Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh.

He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got the whole wide world in His hands. Todo el mundo en su mano está. Todo el mundo en su mano está. Todo el mundo en su mano está.

David: God be with you. All And also with you. David: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark All Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Mark 5:21-43 NRSV – David Stewart

21 When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by the sea. 22 Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet 23 and begged him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” 24 So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. 25 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. 26 She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” 29 Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 He looked all around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” 35 While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” 36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” 37 He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. 38 When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and

went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” 42 And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. 43 He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

David: The Gospel of Christ. All Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Sermon –The Ven. Dr. Lon Towstego

Affirmation of Faith

The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People – David Stewart

The Lord’s Prayer (said)

David: Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Confession and Absolution

Lon: Let us confess our sins to God. All: God of mercy, we have sinned against you and against

others. We have sinned in what we have done, and in what we have failed to do. We are truly sorry. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, forgive us all that is past and raise us to newness of life. Amen.

Lon: Almighty God, who pardons all who truly repent, forgive your sins, strengthen you by the Holy Spirit, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

All: Amen.

The Peace – Lon

Doxology Lon: Glory to God All: Whose love, working in us, can do infinitely more than we

can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever, Amen.

Commission Lon: For all that God can do within us,

For all that God can do without us, All: Thanks be to God Lon: For all in whom Christ lived before us,

For all in whom Christ lives beside us, All: Thanks be to God

Lon: For all the Spirit wants to bring us, For where the Spirit wants to send us,

All: Thanks be to God

Lon: Listen, Christ has promised to be with us In the world as in our worship.

All: Amen. We go to serve Him.

Blessing – Lon

Sending Song: Mighty to Save – Ben Fielding, Reuben Morgan © 2006 CCLI # 4591782

Ev’ryone needs compassion, Love that's never failing. Let mercy fall on me. Ev’ryone needs forgiveness, The kindness of a Saviour. The hope of nations.

Saviour, He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save. Forever, Author of salvation. He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me, All my fears and failures. Fill my life again. I give my life to follow, Ev’rything I believe in. Now I surrender.

Saviour, He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save. Forever, Author of salvation. He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.

Saviour, He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save. Forever, Author of salvation. He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We're singing for the glory of the risen King. Jesus. Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We're singing for the glory of the risen King.

Saviour, He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save,

He is mighty to save. Forever, Author of salvation. He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We're singing for the glory of the risen King. Jesus. Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We're singing for the glory of the risen King.

Dismissal: David: In the name of the Light that came into the world go in peace. All: Thanks be to God.
