If you are wondering why the cabin is called Bummy’s Place... ... it comes from the restaurant that appeared in Clint Eastwood’s 2008 movie “The Changeling” (starring Angelina Jolie,) as a tribute to Eastwood’s long-time production designer and film collaborator, Henry Bumstead - Bob’s dad.

Two-time Oscar winner Henry Bumstead worked non-stop with Clint Eastwood since his 1992 Oscar nomination for production design of Eastwood’s movie, “Unforgiven” until his death at age 91 in 2006 after completing Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Flags of our Father and Letters from Iwo Jima.

Bob’s dad loved visiting Oregon and appreciated Oregon’s beautiful wilderness areas. After his passing, Bob’s daughter Laurie surprised us with a sign to hang over the front door of the cabin, thereby christening the cabin as “Bummy’s Place” as a tribute to her grandfather.

His Oscar winning movies To Kill a Mockingbird and The Sting are among his movies in our movie library, and some of Bummy’s memorabilia can be found hanging in the loft.

Never Get Bored !

What to do?

WINTER WONDERLAND

iamond Peaks development is located just 1.2 miles east of Crescent Lake Junction off Highway 58.

Bummy’s Place Cabin is an easy drive on Highway 58 coming from the east or west.

From the east off of Hwy 97, take a turn west onto Hwy 58 and drive about 14 miles to Diamond Peaks development. From Bend, head south on Hwy 97 and take the Crescent cut-off and it’s a 20-minute drive.

From Eugene or Portland, travel I-5 South and take the Highway 58 exit 188 to Oakridge/Klamath Falls. Drive past Willamette Pass Ski Resort, Odell Lake, and Crescent Lake Junction. Go 1.2 mi. from Crescent Lake Junction,

turn left at the Diamond Peaks sign on Royce Mountain Rd.

Driving east on Hwy 58, notice the change from Douglas fir to Lodge-pole pine once you pass Willamette Pass Ski Resort. You’re at the summit and the clouds part and beautiful sunny skies await you. Before reaching the summit, however, you will pass some great destinations to stretch your legs. After the tunnel, stop at Salt Creek Falls and take a short hike on the handicap-accessible trail for a spectacular view of the falls or (in the winter) enjoy the snow tubing park. Continue up Hwy 58 and stop for a Gondola ride (summer) up to the top of Willamette Pass (at the ski resort) for breathtaking views, or stop at Odell Lake Lodge for homemade pie.

Hiking!Rosary Lakes 6-miles round trip

A 10-minute drive away. A day hike on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail to Rosary Lakes. This heart-shaped lake is much larger than the other two Rosary Lakes. It forms a perfect mirror for Pulpit Rock, 600 feet above the lake.

FishingDiamond Lake (only an hour’s drive away)

Bob caught a beauty measuring 20 inches. This trout made for good eats with a morel cream sauce. Nearby fishing at Crescent, Odell, Gold & Davis lakes!

Wild Shroom Hunting!Fungi treats for the gourmet cook! Carrie says that the morels will let you know when they want to be found! The Cascades are well known for its wild mushrooms. But shhhhh... if anyone ever asks where you found them, just say “in the forest.”

WHAT TO BRING:

Although the cabin is well equipped, we ask that you consider bringing some basic items:• Your favorite coffee (Tea is provided)• Zip-lock plastic bags or plastic containers to take your food items home• Laundry detergent if you plan to do laundry• Slippers for indoor use. • SNOW PARK permit is required to park at the Gold Lake Snow Park if you decide to XC ski, so pick one up at the Willamette Mercantile in Oakridge or the Sportsman Center store in Crescent Lake Junction.

UPON YOUR ARRIVAL:

Keyless Entry Code unlocks the cabin front door. You will receive your four digit entry code (provided via email after full payment is received).

Garage key and access to bonus room apartment/full bathroom: The garage door key is hanging inside near the front door. Please replace the key when not in use. The “remote garage door opener” is located in the kitchen island drawer. You may park your car in the garage or in the breezeway between the house and garage. Please return the remote to the kitchen drawer before departing.

Remove your shoes upon entering as a courtesy to the owners. Baskets are near the front door. Consider bringing slippers to wear while in the house.

Heat/Gas Fireplace: The thermostat is in the hallway. If chilly, set the thermostat to 64 degrees when also running the gas fireplace. (Please conserve electricity/gas.) Don’t worry;

it will not be cold in the house at this setting.

The gas fireplace switch is located to the right of the fireplace. Please turn on the ceiling fan when the fireplace and thermostat is turned on above 60 degrees to circulate the warm air, as the upstairs will tend to get quite toasty. The ceiling fan switch is located in the bank of light switches above the living room bookshelf. Turn off the gas fireplace & lights when leaving the house.

At bedtime: turn off the gas fireplace before bedtime. Turn the thermostat down before going to bed to 60. We have experimented with the temperature setting and found this to be the most comfortable.

Bonus Rm/Apt. & Bathroom: This 300 sq. ft. room includes a king-size bed, a twin bed, and a full-size futon couch that converts to a bed. The room also has a microwave, coffee pot, TV for the game console, table, and dresser.

Garage bathroom is on the ground floor and includes a shower. The bathroom light switch is on the right side of the door before you enter.

Additional Snow Removal can be provided by Viewcrest Contractors, at 541-990-9170 – Shayne or Steve Probst, or Darrel of Crescent Creek Cottages at 5 541-521-0302

If You Lose Power call Midstate Electric at 800- 752-5935 or 541-536-2165. Generally, their response time is quite fast. You can still operate the gas stove and fireplace. Use hot water sparingly. Call owner if you have questions.

SOMETHING NOT WORKING? Please call Carrie at 541-912-9599 for instructions.

Light bulbs that are burned out can be replaced with spare bulbs on the top shelf of the pantry.
