our purpose to BraNd Northside is to BriNG toGether NoN-profits aNd orGaNizatioNs

iN Northside uNder a uNified ideNtity.

the journey started by talking with the community at large to hear what they had to say about Northside, gain feedback and document insights to inform design inspiration and ultimately create our story. a team of local designers donated their time to help create our identity.

voting by both Northside Community Council and the Northside Business association took place on all logo submissions.the goal of our branding effort from the beginning was to collaborate on all fronts – engage with the community and do something great for community! the Northside Branding Committee is proud to say our process to get us here worked and we achieved our common goal – establish a visual and verbal identity for Northside.

What the brand (our logo) does for us: • Personifies Northside in a unique way and builds meaning into the community • Creates awareness, recognition and buzz • Makes a memorable unified experience visually and verbally • Delivers on a promise • Helps define us, our story, our rally cry “ Northside – A Different Direction”

Visual Arts

eye of the Beholder

Why spend money on art? it can cost you dearly, and you can’t eat it. ah, but you can absorb it and improve your “artsight” in the process.

People with art on their walls, end tables, hanging from the ceiling, or gracing their yards report that a beautiful environment in, and around, the home helps them feel more positive about life, and leads to a reduction in stress. some see their art pieces as islands of safety in a complex world or even trusted friends. they also love the fact that art is a boon to conversation in social situations.

how about bringing some art home with you and, at the same time, supporting the galleries, restaurants and shops that make it available? select Northside art galleries are listed below, but stop in at any of the Second Saturday locations also, where objects d’art and exhibitions can be found.

Prairie Galleryupstairs at 4035 hamilton ave., brings works from both emerging and established artists into a bright, open atmosphere. Prairie invites the use of a variety of media and is committed to community-based art involving collaboration between artists and the North-side neighborhood.

the gallery changes its exhibits every two months or so, and whether it’s solo work or group exhibitions you will be glad you took the climb. Photo classes also of-fered there throughout the year. Tue-Fri 10 am–6 pm; sat. 10-4. 513-557-3819

Joseph Clark Gallery the african art gallery relocated in march 2013 to Northside at 4038 hamilton avenue. Features a variety of local artists in multiple mediums. also offers art repair. hours from 2 Pm to 8:00 Pm on Wednesdays through saturdays, it is also open by appointment. To find out more or to make an appointment call 513-351-8111 or email at [email protected]..

Visionaries and Voices Began in 2002 with a simple and ingenuous vision: to create a space for artists with disabilities. What a suc-cess! at their location at 3841 spring grove ave., they now serve over 150 artists a week. the facility houses a large studio, gallery and administrative offices, and you won’t have trouble finding it: The whole south side of the building is covered with a colorful mural de-signed by antonio adams in honor of the life of ray-mond thundersky. studio 513-861-4333.

Thundersky Galleryraymond thundersky, who’s that? Prior to his death in 2004, thundersky roamed the streets of Cincinnati wearing a clown costume and hard hat while carrying a toolbox. obsessed with demoli-tion, as well as construction, he would set up a temporary easel at construction sites, creating such works as “Future mohawk Freeway” and “New Clown Costume Factory.”

in thundersky’s spirit, the thundersky gallery, (4573 hamilton ave.) provides a haven for cre-ative outsiders, with a challenge to smash the comfortable and leave something beautiful in its place. Fri. 6-8. sat./sun. 1-5. 513-823-8914.
