the east 48 degrees North and 68 degrees East 2,717,300 Square Kilometers Slightly less than four times the size of Texas

polluted from pesticides. Lakes Balqash that is

located in the east Major deposits of

petroleum, natural gas, iron ore and manganese.

Land use Arable land 8% Boarding countries are

china, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

Climate/Vegetation Continental Cold Winters Hot Summers The land is also a

test site for nuclear weapons so the land is poisoned from the radioactivity

Government Long name is Republic of Kazakhstan Republic and has Presidential rule Little power out of executive branch The capitol is Astana 15,090,000 People live there Life Expectancy is 67 Able to vote at the age of 18

History Became independent

from the Soviet Union on December 16th 1991

First constitution was adopted January 28th 1993

New Constitution was adopted August 30th 1995

Current Event Kazakhstan on Monday, February 9th has

agreed to letting the US to ship non-military items thru a transport to the parts of territory that the US has in Afghanistan.

Economy 98% Literacy Rate The Labor force is 8.358 Million Currency is the tenge Large oil distributor Main source of income is from extracting minerals

Unemployment rate is 6.9% Occupation:

Agriculture-31.5%Industry- 18.4%Services- 50%

Culture Independence Day is 16th of December. It

was started in 1991 Languages spoken are mostly Russian and

Kazakh Main religious are Muslim and Russian

Orthodox

Places to Visit In the capitol, Astana there is a

tower, Baiterek Tower. Total 105 meters, at 97 meters there is an observation deck .In the tower there is an art gallery, aquarium and a restaurant.

Alakol Lake is the biggest lake of the chain of Alakol lakes. Water is warm and a average temp of the water is 26 C.
