ST. COLUMCILLE CHURCH Sullivan, Illinois APRIL 21, 2019

EASTER SUNDAY

“He had to rise from the dead.”

John 20:1-9

Prepare For Next Sunday’s Readings

INTRODUCTION

In next Sunday’s Gospel, (April 28), we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. The church teaches that St. Faustina, a 20th-century Polish nun, recorded revelations that she received from Jesus who, as she wrote in her diary, desired that “a Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls.” The readings tell the story of God’s abundant mercy and love for us. We ask for the grace to more clearly respond to these great signs and wonders of mercy and love that God continues to bestow on us and our world.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Acts 5:12-16: Many signs and wonders were done

among the people

attitude by doing acts of service and leadership toward her parish and community.

The selection is made by the Council of Catholic Women, but the woman selected need not be a member. A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS….

Christ Has Risen! He Has Risen Indeed!

ALLELUIA! Our faithful Lenten journeys have brought us to the promise of Easter Joy! Easter shows us that Life is stronger than death and that Light is more powerful than darkness. For the world to believe this Truth, our friends and neighbors must see it through the witness of each of our lives. Catholic historian Christopher Dawson reminded us that in an increasingly Christophobic world “the only thing that can stand against such forces is “the spiritual vitality of the Christian community.” Every Christian needs an intellectual grasp of Christian principles and a living interest in our faith. May the graces of the season help us to live our lives daily mindful of the presence of the Risen Lord. May our faith and joy be contagious! A Blessed Easter to you and yours, Pax et Bonum, fr john

Saint Luke Productions will present a Live Performance of “Tolton: From Slave to Priest” in Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 PM. Please bring your friends and family to witness this remarkable story of America's First Black Priest! Open to the public!
