Welcome to HLPC! Houston Lake Presbyterian Church is here for the glory of God to be a graciously redeemed worshiping body that proclaims and lives in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people, families, and communities in Houston County and beyond may know Christ in all His fullness. Please set all mobile phones to silent mode. Children of all ages are welcome in the worship service. Nursery is provided for children under 4 years of age. Parents are encouraged and welcome to utilize the crying room for infants and young children. Sound is also provided in the foyer.

The Lord’s Supper is being served this morning HLPC welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are able to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. (Note: The bread in the center cup used in communion is gluten-free.)

LORD’S DAY WORSHIP February 17, 2019

GATHERING Prelude We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning. Welcome & Announcements Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service. Silent Preparation for Worship †Call to Worship - The First Word We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name. Minister: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! People: Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Minister: Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts

with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! People: For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures

forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100)

†Prayer for God’s Presence

†Hymn of Praise "Glory Be to God the Father"

1. Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son, Glory be to God the Spirit, Great Jehovah, Three in One. Singing glory, glory. Glory while eternal ages run.

2. Glory be to Him who loved us, Washed us from each spot and stain. Glory be to Him who bought us, Made us kings with Him to reign. Singing glory, glory. Glory to the Lamb who once was slain.

3. Glory to the king of Angels, Glory to the Church’s King. Glory to the King of nations, Heaven and earth your praises bring. Singing glory, glory. Glory to the King of Nations bring.

4. Glory blessing praise eternal, Thus the choir of angels sings. Honor, riches, power, dominion, Thus its praise creation brings. Singing glory, glory. Glory, glory to the King of Kings

†Corporate Confession of our Faith The New City Catechism is a recent tool for use in the home and in the church. It combines the best of previous catechisms and helps us to understand and affirm together Biblical truth. Minister: What is our only hope in life and death? People: That we are not our own but belong, body and soul, both in life and death, to God and to our Savior Jesus Christ. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. (Romans 14:7-8) REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL Call to Confess Our Sins Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ. For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15) Silent Prayers of Confession Hymn of Confession & Grace “My God, My God, O Why Have You Forsaken Me?” Hymn #79

Words of Grace Minister: Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him. (Isaiah 30:18) People: God’s grace and mercy have been poured out on us in Jesus Christ so that we are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen. †Grace Makes Us Gracious: Greeting One Another Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7) †Hymn of Celebration “Satisfied”

1. All my life long, I had panted For a drink from some cool spring That I hoped would quench the burning Of the thirst I feel within. Chorus: Hallelujah! He has found me, The One my soul so long has craved! Jesus satisfies all my longings Through His blood I now am saved.

2. Feeding on the filth around me ‘Til my strength was almost gone. Longed my soul for something better Only still to hunger on. Chorus

3. Poor I was and sought for riches Something that would satisfy. But the dust I gathered ‘round me Only mocked my soul’s sad cry. Chorus

4. Well of water ever springing Bread of Life so rich and free. Untold wealth that never faileth My Redeemer is to me. Chorus Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Winfield Tufts (Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer) Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. HEARING GOD SPEAK †Scripture Reading Genesis 2:1-17 p.2

Minister: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

Message Rev. Paul Bankson Genesis: In the Beginning

God’s Gardeners Hymn of Preparation “I Need Thee, Precious Jesus” (vs 1) Hymn #497

MEETING GOD AT HIS TABLE Words of Institution Sharing of the Bread and the Cup

RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE Offering Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you. (Deut. 16:16-17) “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” Hymn #281 DEPARTING †Benediction - The Last Word God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands. †Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731 All Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV).
