DONGGUAN

Located in the south central Guangdong Province and to the

east of the Pearl River estuary, Dongguan lies in the middle

section of both the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay

Area and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology

Innovation Corridor. Initially a county called Bao’an in AD 331 in

the Eastern Jin dynasty until AD 757 in the Tang Dynasty when it

changed its name to the current Dongguan: “dong” means east

in Chinese referring to its location of being east to Guangzhou

and “guan” is the name of a kind of grass growing in profusion

on this land. Becoming a county-level city in September 1985

and upgraded to a prefecture-level city in January 1988, it now

encompasses four urban sub-districts and 28 towns, with an

area of 2,460 square kilometers.

A city dedicated to sports. It is the birthplace of Chen Jingkai,

China’s first world record breaker in sports. The most talented

snookerplayer Ding Junhui and basketball star Yi Jianlian, were

trained here. It boasts Guangdong Hongyuan Basketball Team,

China’s first private basketball club and CBA champion in 8 out of

10 years, and other sport facilities like the Dongguan City Basketball

Center, Li Yongbo Badminton School, and the National Badminton

Training Base. It enjoys various popular recognitions like the land of

swimming, dragon boating, weightlifting, dragon and lion dancing,

as well as “the cradle of snooker champions" and "national

basketball city". It has proudly hosted such international sport

events as Golf World Cup, Sudirman Cup for badminton, Asian

Marathon Championships and FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier.

Dongguan has a population of 8.39 million (by the end of 2018). Some 200,000 overseas Chinese and 700,000 compatriots in Hong Kong

and Macao have their ethnic origin in Dongguan, making it a renowned homeland for Chinese overseas.

Dongguan has a subtropical monsoon climate, long summer, ample sunshine, abundant rainfall, temperature difference amplitude is small,

and with obviously monsoon. From August to September, the temperature of Dongguan is on the high side and more rainfall. It is easy to be

affected by typhoon weather with 26℃-29℃ average temperature.

Nanshe Ancient Village

Now a state-level AAAA tourist site, Nanshe

Village has a history that can be dated back to over

800 years ago, or the Song Dynasty in China. It

features the well-preserved clan-based community

typical in Lingnan (literally, the south of the Nanling

Mountains). The village now boasts 19 national key

cultural relics and 94 historical buildings, as well as 7

Dongguan city-level immovable cultural relics. A total

area of 110,000 square metres is under preservation,

where 32 ancestral halls and 600 plus ancient

dwellings still stand.

Keyuan Museum

Built in 1850, Dongguan’s Keyuan (Ke Garden) is one of the Four Great

Gardens in Guangdong Province in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1911). The

other three gardens are Qinghui Garden in Shunde, Yuyin Garden in

Panyu, and Liang Garden in Foshan.

Keyuan is celebrated for its petite size and exquisite design. It is an

invaluable cultural resource as well as a cultural landmark of Dongguan.

In 2001 the State Council identified Dongguan Keyuan as a national key

cultural relic for preservation.

Songshan Lake

SongHuYanYu: Situated right in an ecological scenic area, the lake is

blessed with 8 square kilometres of natural water source, 42 kilometres of

shoreline, and the lush hills that surround it. The greenery and the entire

charming scenery have earned the lake the number one place among the

top eight Dongguan attractions as rated by the local residents.

Taoyuan Park: Located in the southern section of Binhu Road,

the park features the hilly landform with the peak at 96.8 metres,

the highest altitude in Songshan Lake area. Inside the park,

maple and potted trees can also be found, but peach is

highlighted for the blossoms, thus the name Taoyuan, literally, the

land of peach blossoms.

Yanling National Urban Wetland Park:

Among the park’s total area of 627,000 square

metres, 372,100 square metres are natural

wetland, and the rest (254,600 square metres) is

occupied by vertical flow constructed wetland.

The country’s largest water-purifying engineering

project in a constructed wetland takes place here.

In December 2013 Yanling Wetland was

approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-

Rural Development as a National Urban Wetland

Park.

Museum of Agarwood Culture of China

Agarwood from Dongguan has a long history

and abundant connotations. In order to revive

and promote its culture, Liaobu town launched

the first museum that specializes in agarwood

culture in such a big scale in China or even in

Culture of China. The museum is opened on

December 18th, 2014. It is located at the foot of

the Incense park.

airports, volume of passengers handled ranks

among the highest in the country. The number

of International routes opened is 88, linking a

total of more than 47 countries and regions in

Shenzhen City, China, it is 32 km away from

the urban area of Shenzhen and is a 4F civil

transportation airport, one of the top 100

airports in the world.There are 170 navigable

cities, including 111 domestic cities, 4 Hong

Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 55 international

navigable cities.

The competition venue is 105 kilometers away from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, about 90 minutes; 55 kilometers away from Shenzhen Baoan Airport, about 60 minutes by car; 30 kilometers away from Humen High-speed Railway Station, about 45 minutes by car; and 15 kilometers away from Dongguan Railway Station, about 30 minutes by car. Free bus service will be opened during the competition, which will reach Dongguan Basketball Center via Sports Road, Shizhu Road, Hongfu Road, Hongfu East Road, Bayi Road, Songshan Lake Avenue and Jinfu Road.If you take the city rail, you can get off at Liaobu Station and take the free shuttle bus to Dongguan Basketball Center. Taxis can be used to the venues in the city.

Dongguan Basketball Center is located at the crossing of

Songshanhu Avenue and the expressway trunk line in the easter of

Dongguan, covering a total land area of 267,000 square meters and

a total construction area of 63,000 square meters. Venue seating

capacity of 16,133, VIP box 98, outdoor parking 1657. The venue is

equipped with a complete set of functions, such as a multi-sided LED

display screen, a 360-degree ring display screen, a 1,800-square-

meter embedded large ice rink and professional broadcasting lights.

It is one of the few venues in China that can meet the requirements

of NBA.
