Following several years’ worth of effort on the part of your neighbors working in partnership with representatives from the cities of Campbell and San Jose, the residents of the Cambrian 36 and San Jose Sliver (Central Park Drive neighborhood) reached their goal and are now officially a part of Campbell. This annexation is effective as of May 1, 2013. Campbell is pleased to have extended its boundaries to include your neighborhood. You and your families will benefit from being a part of the vital and friendly Campbell community. We look forward to your full participation in Campbell life. We are confident that Campbell will benefit from having you as a part of the community as well. At City Hall, we have a dedicated and efficient City staff that is available to help answer your transition questions and future service requests. Council is confident that you will enjoy interacting with them. In becoming a part of a smaller community, you will find just how easy it is to access information and assistance from our capable and approachable staff. Professional and helpful communication is our standard. Typical residential and commercial services will change in some service categories while not in others. For example, instead of County Sheriff’s service for police response, you will now be served by the Campbell Police Department. At the same time, your fire services will continue to be provided by County Fire but under Campbell’s contract. A fairly complete list of service providers for Campbell residents can be found on the reverse side of this notice. Feel free to use this contact information to reach the appropriate services and secure necessary information about “your” city. Mayor Evan D. Low Vice Mayor Rich Waterman Council Member Jason T. Register to Vote

If you are already registered to vote, the County Registrar of Voters will automatically amend their records so you will receive the correct ballots and election materials. If you were not previously registered to vote, the City of Campbell encourages its residents to be active and have their voices heard. One important way for you to be heard is to vote. The Registrar of Voters has a website with a lot of information that will help you register and/or to verify that you are already properly registered to vote. http://www.sccgov.org/sites/rov/Pages/Registrar-of-Voters.aspx

Building Permits-then & now Beginning on May 1, 2013, all

development activity requiring the issuance of a Building Permit will be issued by the City of Campbell. How-ever, the County will retain the historic permits they have on file

for your property. All new permits issued by the City of Campbell will be kept with the City of Campbell. If you ever need a comprehensive permit search, such as when your property is up for sale, you will need to contact both the County and the City of Campbell to secure a complete record of all permits issued. For those of you coming to us from San Jose, the same will apply. Old records will be held by the City of San Jose Building Department. Any permits issued after May 1, 2013, will be issued by City of Campbell’s Building Division and corresponding building permit records issued after May 1, 2013, will be maintained in Campbell. For questions about what types of construction trigger the requirement for building permits, please call the Building Division at (408) 866-2130 or you can submit an email question to the attention of Kathleen Overman, Permit Technician, at [email protected] or Bill Bruckart, Building Official, at [email protected].

Getting a Business License Newly annexed businesses will secure Campbell business licenses instead of County or San Jose business licenses. Questions about cost and

processing can be secured through the City’s Finance Department. The Business License direct line is (408) 866-2174. You can send specific inquiries about fees and renewals to [email protected]. A business operated from your home also requires a business license as well as a home occupation permit. Home-based businesses may not draw customer or employee traffic into your home. If you have specific questions about operating a business from home, please contact the Planning Department at (408) 866-2140 or [email protected].

Cable Channel 26 - Watch your government in action

The City of Campbell Government Channel 26 has been in operation since 1997 as a convenient means for citizens to observe their local government decision-making process. The Channel cablecasts live public meetings of the City Council on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m., and re-cablecasts them on the following Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Planning Commission meetings are cablecast on the second and fourth Tuesdays and re-cablecasts on the following Fridays at 7:30 p.m. When meetings are not being cablecast, there is a 24-hour video bulletin board that posts City-related services, programs, classes, job announcements, Public Works projects in progress, public safety tips, and

other general information of interest to Campbell citizens. For program scheduling information, Comcast cable subscribers can tune in to Channel 26 (AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) or contact the City’s cablecasting Studio Manager at (408) 866-2128 or via email at [email protected].

Street Sweeping Each Month Campbell streets are swept once each month. The newly annexed area is antici-pated to be swept on the first Tuesday of each month. Street

sweeping helps remove debris that collects in the gutters and block storm drain inlets. When storm drain inlets are blocked, flooding of the street can occur. Street sweeping also helps remove heavy metals on the street which would otherwise wash into the drainage system and eventually into our creeks and Bay. Please help keep our streets clean by not raking, piling or blowing debris, leaves or tree branches into the storm drain systems. Please place your leaves and yard trimmings in the container provided by your garbage collector (West Valley Collection and Recycling). Also, on the days of your scheduled street sweeping, please park your vehicles off street so that the street sweeper could get access to sweep the gutter, pan and adjacent pavement. For questions about street sweeping services, contact the Public Works Service Yard at (408) 866-2145 or via email at [email protected].

WV Sanitation-Sewer Lines West Valley Sanitation District maintains the sanitary systems in the City of Campbell by scheduled cleanings, repairs to damaged lines, and clearing blocked lines as needed. From each residence/building there is a sanitary sewer lateral line that carries sewage to the main line in the street. West Valley Sanitation maintains the system from the cleanout to the street. To report problems with cleanout or sewer lines contact West Valley

Sanitation District during business hours 7:30 am to 4:30 pm weekdays at (408)378-2407. www.westvalleysan.org . For after hours emergencies, call County Communications at (408)299-2507.

Garbage and Recycling Collection & Dumpsters

West Valley Collection and Recycling is Campbell’s garbage, yard waste and recycling collection provider. All dumpsters coming into Campbell must be secured directly through them. To reserve a dumpster, please call (408) 283-9250.

West Valley Collection’s informative customer website can be found at http://www.westvalleyrecycles.com.

Yard Waste goes into Containers - Not on Street

Newly annexed residents will find a few differences in collection services. In Campbell the yard clippings are not piled onto the street. All yard waste must be placed in approved yard waste carts. Residents interested in obtaining additional yard waste carts can contact West Valley Collection and Recycling at (408)283-9250. The first three yard waste carts are free. For any yard waste cart beyond three a modest additional fee is charged.
