WENTWORTH PARK Westmead Children’s Cot Fund Benefits from Footwear, Leather & Allied Trades Fundraiser

17 November 2014

On Friday November 14 last the Footwear Leather and Allied Trades gathered in their numbers at Wentworth Park for a function on level 1 as part of their ongoing fundraising for Westmead’s Children’s Hospital to provide much needed help towards increasing the number of cots (beds) available to the hospital. More than 70 members of the group returned to Wentworth Park for this event which is now an annual undertaking at the venue and a major focus of their efforts to support the wonderful work of the Westmead’s Children’s Hospital. Dedicated and hardworking organiser of the event Bill Dale said they very much appreciated the opportunity to undertake this fundraiser at the venue, that it had always been a successful and enjoyable time with the excellent facilities and the added attraction of an exciting night of greyhound racing on offer.

The occasion included a sponsored race, the Westmead Children’s Hospital Cot Fund Stake a 520m grade 5 as race 3 on the program. The event was won by the Jodie Lord trained Cawbourne Kayono.

Craig Youll, Wentworth Park on-course photographer kindly provided the accompanying photograph showing the presentation made to connections after the event by Brian Hughes Chairman (left) and Neville Goodwin Secretary (right) of Footwear Leather and Allied Trades, with handler Ray Dixon.

BULLI

Bella Senora for Kings Langley trainer Adam wade beat a top class field in the Ladbrokes 400m final at Bull last Wednesday. Despite being the fastest heat winner Bella Senora supporters rubbed their hands in glee with the $6.10 on offer. Two Heats of the Ladbroke 1-4 wins series were conducted with Melinda Finn winning both heats with Winsome Mission & Winsome Jacko who produced a Kingston Town Cox plate finish when all hope was gone half way down the straight. Other winners on the night were Tui The Weapon breaking her maiden for Neville Brown. Classy Sahara went around at long odds and saluted for Jason Magri and Blue Revolver opened his account for Preston Rowles. In a good 5th grade 515m Fantastic Pete looks destined for bigger things for Jason Fletcher and the double figured odds didn’t stop Encosta Deplente getting the cash for Lorraine Perrin. Glenn Jenkyns kept his impressive Bulli record of late with Unleash De Magic and in the final race on the card Swazi made good use of the one box for Lisa Bont. Don’t forget at Bulli Friday trial sessions its breakfast at Bulli with Egg & Bacon Rolls cooked up for brekkie between 7.30am & 9am. Come to the Bulli Friday trials for a wonderful breakfast. Early reports are saying they are the best Bacon & Egg rolls going around. Nominations close this Friday at 9am for the Bulli Race meeting on November 26th Bulli To Wentworth Park heats will be run refer below. WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 26 BULLI 472M TO WENTWORTH PARK 520M 5th GRADE MINIMUM 2 WINS NO CITY WINS. ONE WIN OTHER THAN MAIDEN OF DISTANCE 400M OR FURTHER. BULLI – INSTALL OF SET 400m BOXES

Thanks to consultation with Local Council and GRNSW, Bulli Boxes project of permanently placing 400m start

in the ground & the reposition of 659m start will commence on Monday 10th November.

As work will be on the outside of the track the project will not affect any race meetings or Friday trial sessions

but there will be no trials on Tuesday November 11th or Tuesday November 18th.

The project will also include the installation of a finish lynx camera at the 1st section split that will also allow

for a head on camera to be in operation for the Bulli back straight in the future.

An upgrade to the timing equipment will also take place. The project is expected to take 2-3 weeks to

complete. The Club will forward on information or any changes as the project progresses.

The East Maitland Business Houses Final – Spacecraft Continues to Fly High

Minnie Finn did not completely steal the show at Maitland last week with her track record breaker Winsome Prince, as Lorraine Atchison got a share of the limelight when her very talented sprinter Spacecraft ran a slick 25.10 to win the East Maitland Business Houses (1-4 wins) Final over the 450m. The betting was a battle between the winner at $2.40 and Beau Hedley’s Avondale Storm at $2.00 and the race was also a battle in two – the favourite led but Spacecraft is such a strong finisher and when parked behind the leader it was no surprise that he finished all over the top of the favourite, although in the end the favourite was a tad disappointing. The accompanying photo of the presentation was kindly provided courtesy of

Steve Whalland Race Images, Maitland on-course photographer. Maitland’s

Sponsorship and Promotions Manager Fred Robertson is shown, joined on his

right by the trainer’s sister Noelene Holloway, trainer Lorraine Atchison and

representative of the East Maitland Business Houses, who enjoyed a great day

of racing and hospitality for their annual sponsorship at the track.

Track Record to Winsome Prince – 24.79!

On Thursday November 13 in a Maitland to Wenty heat

over the 450m Minnie Finn’s exciting sprinter Winsome

Prince, unbeaten in its previous 7 starts, smashed the track

record with a sizzling 24.79 run. This was a super effort,

bettering the previous record of 24.87 set by the top notch

Victorian multiple Group race winner Paw Licking in a heat

of the Maitland Cup on March 20 last.

Minnie commented on how good the racing surface was,

thanking Liam for his hard work, “the track is tip top,

number one, that’s why we come here and we’ll keep

coming back” she said.

Double to Paul Camilleri in Maiden Heats Riverstone trainer Paul Camilleri won both heats of the 400m Maiden Series at Gosford on Tuesday November 11 with Cruzin’ Wham and Lightning Wham. Paul owns both greyhounds which are from the same February 2013 Magic Sprite x Eye Eye Dos litter. Cruzin’ Wham ran 23.55 at $11.40 to win by 3 ½ lengths from box 1- after a fair start the greyhound punched through a tight leading bunch to come off the back in front and came away in the end for an easy. Lightning Wham left nothing to chance jumping on the bunny to lead and win by 3 in 23.40. Congratulations to Paul on his double. The accompanying photo was kindly provided courtesy of Steve Whalland Race Images, on-course photographer at Gosford.
