In-Class Behavior


• Polite and cordial behavior •expected in class, •on the playground, • everywhere.

• “Please” and “Thank You”


• Be on time • Be prepared • Be seated


• Listen and follow- –all directions –all instructions –when others are speaking


Work


• Daily homework• LP’s = weekly and due Fridays • Due dates• Study• Don’t procrastinate!


Procedures


• Raise a quiet hand • At times, it is okay to speak out and

discuss your thoughts• Only positive and encouraging comments

• Negative comments and attitudes will not be tolerated


• Zero tolerance for those who verbally, physically, or emotionally abuse others

• Use language of respect • Respect space and property of others


• Group projects = cooperation • Do NOT plagiarize.

• Plagiarize = cheating–Use a bibliography


• Restroom usage

• Use your time wisely during your recesses.


• Personal items such as playground/PE equipment, make-up, electronics and phones, will be left at home/out of sight.

• Inappropriate items seen by the teacher will be confiscated to the OFFICE.


• Cell phones = turned OFF!

• They are not to be seen or heard until off campus.


• Eat healthy snacks • Hydrate yourself in moderation


Communication


• Communicate with your teacher/parents

• Get parents’ signatures, ASAP– 5 pts!!

• Issues, ?’s, concerns, you don’t understand, ask good questions … talk with me


• Grades = communicated with you and your parents ~ every 4 weeks

• Not achieving goals, do what you need to do to improve the grades:

• Test Repairs, Extra Credit

• I will do my best to help you achieve your goals • Own and accept the consequences for not

working at your best• Don’t wait until the last minute to improve your

grades. Fix the grades ASAP!


Classroom Management


The school-wide card system is used in class and throughout the campus. Blue = good day Green = warning Yellow = owe 1 recess Orange = Time-out, phone call home and

owe 2 recesses Red = Office referral and owe “X” recesses White = suspension


Bring to Class Each Day• Binder with :

–Homework, Returned Work• Agenda• All necessary books and workbooks• Pencils and other supplies • Readiness to work!


Grades


• Grades = assignments based on the points earned for that assignment as a percentage

• (18/20 = 90%)

• Tests and quizzes, projects, and other work are ‘weighted’ differently in each subject

• Generally, tests are weighed more than projects, quizzes, and other work


• Report card grade for each subject = cumulative points earned over the course of the trimester.

• 3.0-3.9 = Honor Roll • 3.5-4.0 = District Honor Roll • 4.0 (all A’s) = Principal’s Award


The grading scale:– 100% - 90% = A = 5 =

Above Standard Expectations = + or +– 89% - 80% = B = 4

At Standard Expectations = – 79% - 70% = C = 3

At Standard Expectations = – 69% - 60% = D = 2

Approaching, but not at the Standard Expectations = -

– 59% and below = F = 1 Below Standard Expectations = -


• Class grades posted in the classroom … – know your Student ID number

• Write your Student ID number in your Agenda.


Goal Setting


• Goal setting gives you a purpose for your work

• It helps your focus during the year

• Set goals: –by semester and for the year

Homework and Classroom Assignments Expectations


First and most importantly… Be ORGANIZED! Plan out your work and assignments

Assignments: to be completed thoroughly and handed in on time

You are responsible to turn in the work to the appropriate place

You are given an appropriate amount of time to complete assignments. DON’T PROCRASTINATE!!!

Use Agenda to write in ALL assignments and due dates

Talk with your teacher if you have any concerns or questions


• Late and/or missing work may lower your grade or can be a 0 (zero)

• Will owe recesses to finish missing or unfinished work and assignments


• You are responsible … to understand the work when it is being explained or presented

• Ask questions to be clear about each assignment


• Use or create Study Guides on reading and/or math tests

• Take good notes when you are studying


• Extra Credit/Accel Projects: at any time, but needs to be aligned to 6th grade academic standards.

• All final work must be turned in for credit prior to locking of grades of that trimester.

• Use a Bibliography at the end of Projects. Cite all sources and resources used to receive full credit.


• Test Repair Forms may be used on any test or quiz, but not on Finals.

• Follow all directions on the Form. • Any Form not correctly filled out will

not be graded.


• Parent signs a test or quiz … receive 5 extra points on the test!!!!!!


• Reading = part of your homework. To show that you are reading, you must take AR tests


Absent Work


• It is your responsibility to obtain and complete work/tests while absent, in a timely manner

• Communicate with your teacher


• Check e-mails for daily homework assignments and projects and events

• E-mail your teacher or friends for homework assignments

• Parent should pick up necessary books and/or papers for the day’s missing homework


Student Organization


Great Skills…• Don’t procrastinate on your

assignments and projects • Use good organization and know

what you need to do


• Your homework calendar, Agenda, must be copied exactly the way it is written on the board each day

• Homework assignments e-mailed to your home


• All assignments … secured in your binders or appropriate folder.

• No loose papers in your binder or desk • Graded and returned assignments must be

turned in to the file box• Don’t throw away your papers until the

end of the semester and your parents have seen them. (get those extra points!)


• The texts be stored on the shelves

• Only use your assigned textbook
