THEATREINFORMATION
HIPPODROME SECURITY PASSES
On your first arrival to the Birmingham Hippodrome Stage Door located on Thorp Street, you will
be issued with an electronic security pass that must be worn at all times inside the theatre.
This pass will give you access to appropriate parts of the building and you must swipe in and out
of the building at Stage Door at all times for fire evacuation purposes. If you lose your pass there
will be a replacement charge.
THE GREEN ROOM
The Staff Green Room is located on the 4th Floor of the Birmingham Hippodrome. It is closed to
the public so is only used by Hippodrome, DanceXchange and BRB staff as well as visiting
companies. It is open daily from 11am until 30 minutes before curtain up and you can purchase
breakfasts, freshly cooked hot meals and snacks as well as a selection of sandwiches and salads.
There is also a television and internet access and vending machines offering cold drinks and
snacks which are available 24 hours a day. To find out the daily menu, contact ext 3368.
PARKING
There are three car parks near the theatre:
The Arcadian Centre car park on Bromsgrove Street is a minute walk from the theatre and
costs £5.90 for 8 hours and £7 for 8-10 hours. Passes are available which can work out
cheaper, contact The Arcadian directly. Tel: 0121 666 6367 or try their website

Euro car park on Thorp Street, directly opposite Birmingham Hippodrome Stage Door
entrance costs £5.20 for 4-6 hours or £8.50 for 10 hours. Tel: 0121 666 6371

CIRCLE RESTAURANT
The Hippodrome boasts it own restaurant that is open 2 hours before every
performances, including matinees. It offers a 3-course menu that is designed
by the head chef Chris Bratt-Rose, as well as an extensive wine list.

STAGESIDE BAR AND BISTRO
StageSide Bar and Bistro is situated opposite Stage Door. All visiting companies are
entitled to a 15% discount on food and drinks upon presentation of security passes.
StageSide is open Monday to Saturday from 5pm until midnight, and from noon until
midnight on matinee days.

Please make sure you inform Stage Door of any guests you may be expecting. They will then be
issued with a visitors pass.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
Please report any suspicious activity immediately to security at Stage Door.
PERSONAL ITEMS
Birmingham Hippodrome cannot accept any liability for damage to, loss of or theft of personal
property on its premises. You are strongly advised not to leave money or valuables unattended at
any time.

CCTV is in operation throughout the building.
SIGNING KEYS IN & OUT
Dressing room keys are to be collected from Stage Door. Keys are not taken offsite; therefore
please ensure to drop them off at Stage Door on exiting the theatre.

On Discovering a Fire
Raise the alarm by breaking the glass on the nearest ‘Break Glass’ point.
Inform other people in the immediate vicinity.
Attempt to extinguish the fire with the appropriate appliances, only if it can be done without
risk to yourself and you have had the appropriate training.
Close doors and leave the building by the nearest exit and report to the Assembly Point as
detailed above.
Do not return to collect personal possessions. Do not wander off.
On Hearing the Fire Alarm
On hearing the Fire Alarm system evacuation announcement or by identifying the alarm
signal, you are required to go immediately to the Assembly Point as detailed above by the
nearest fire exit closing all doors as you go.
Do not use lifts during evacuation.
Do not collect any personal belongings.
Once out of the building and you have reported to your Line Manager, nobody is to return to
the building until the Duty Director gives the all clear.
On Hearing Evacuation Announcement (not Fire Alarm)
If there is a need to evacuate the site (Not a Fire Alarm), the duty Director will make an
announcement though the P.A. system to evacuate the site. Listen carefully as they may tell
you leave the building via a certain exit or to assemble in a different place.
Do not use lifts during evacuation.
Do not collect any personal belongings.
Once out of the building and you have reported to your Line Manager, nobody is to return to
site until the Duty Director has given the all clear

HOW TOFIND US
FROM THE M6 MOTORWAY
From the Junction 6 of the M6 follow the signs for Birmingham Central.
Follow the A38 (M) for 2 miles (signs for the city centre).
At the end of the motorway, take the flyover signed M5 South West.
Coming off the flyover, pass under the tunnel following signs for Inner Ring Road South.
Take the next tunnel (Queensway).
Follow signs for Bromsgrove A 38 which takes you to a third underpass.
On surfacing get in the left hand lane and turn first left (Bromsgrove Street).
Parking straight ahead.
FROM THE M5 MOTORWAY
From junction 4 follow the signs for Birmingham along the A38 through Northfield and
Selly Oak.
Going over the traffic lights at Bristol Street (McDonalds on your left), move into the left lane
(signed BR New Street).
Passing the O2 Academy on your left, move into the right hand lane.
Turn full circle at this roundabout (Holloway Circus).
Take third left (Bromsgrove Street).
Parking straight ahead
FROM NEW STREET TRAIN STATION
Passing the barrier, take the exit doors to the right of the escalators out onto the station
forecourt.
Turn right immediately over the pedestrian crossing.
Going left, walk down to the traffic lights.
Turn left here, crossing Smallbrook Queensway and onto Hurst Street.
One hundred yards on the right side is the theatre.

Firstly, ensure that you have a wireless enabled laptop. To obtain wireless connection in the
first instance, contact Stage Door who will arrange for a ticket. You will find the ticket will
detail your username and password which you will need in order to connect. Please note,
tickets can be used for one PC only.
When you have logged into your computer right click on the wireless icon which can be found
on the task bar at the bottom of the screen.
A pop-up box will appear showing options as displayed below, select View Available Wireless
Networks.
You will then see this screen, highlight HIPPODROME and click the Connect tab in the bottom
right-hand corner of the screen.

It will prompt you for network key. This is restricted so you will be asked to confirm. Once you
have clicked Confirm, click Connect.

Once connected, the screen will appear as below displaying connected in the top right-hand
corner.
Next, open the internet browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox etc). You will
then be asked for your Username and Password to activate your account (as below). This can
be found on the ticket you have been issued from Birmingham Hippodrome IT Department.
After you have typed in your Username and Password, click Enter. Your account should now
be activated for the time period as specified on your ticket.

As part of Birmingham Hippodromes commitment to the environment weare beginning to change the way that we dispose of our waste. Whilst it isconvenient to dispose of all rubbish at one point, this can often have adetrimental effect on the environment when landfill sites are used.
In order to comply with its Environmental Commitment, Birmingham Hippodrome asks that
members of visiting companies:
Turn off lights if you are the last person when leaving a room
Remember to switch off your PC and monitor at the end of the day
Please use the recycling bins provided in the Dressing Room area.
There are bins allocated for paper, plastic, cardboard and general waste
Please remember to turn off all taps and showers after use

This is the pride of Birmingham Parks. Birmingham claims to have over 200 parks,

CANALS
Birmingham is said to have more miles of canal than Venice! The closest to the city
centre is behind the International Convention Centre, off Broad Street. This canal
area - known as Waterside – is lined with attractive walkways, bars and restaurants.
Canal tours operate from gas street basin during the summer months.
THE NEC
The National Exhibition Centre is located outside the city by Birmingham
International Airport. It usually hosts concerts and large exhibition events, such as
Crufts and The Birmingham Motor Show Live.

THE ICC
The ICC stages more than 400 conferences and related events each year and has
earned a reputation of being one of the UK’s leading conference venues. It is located
in the centre of the city on Broad Street and it is also home to Birmingham’s
Symphony Hall.
THE NIA
The National Indoor Arena (The NIA) is one of the busiest large scale indoor sporting
and entertainment venues in Europe. Since opening in 1991, it has welcomed visitors
to over 30 different sports (including indoor rowing!) and an extensive variety of
entertainment and music.

JEWELLERY QUARTER
The Jewellery Quarter has been in existence for over 150 years, but it is only in the
past 20 years it has captured the tourist market. The best jewellery shops are hidden
within the back streets and alleys, rather than along the main roads. Within this
Quarter of Birmingham there is more than great Jewellery Shops but also a great
choice of some of Birmingham best Art Galleries, Shops, Restaurants and bars.
You can reach the Jewellery Quarter by the Snow Hill Metro Train line, by bus,
or on foot from the city centre, which takes about 20 minutes.
BIRMINGHAM MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY
From Pre-Raphaelite to Post-Modern, Renaissance to Realism, Birmingham Museum
and Art Gallery features works by artists such as Canaletto, Gainsborough, Munch,

BARBER INSTITUTE OF FINE ARTS
The Barber Institute of Fine Arts contains one of the finest small collections of
European art in the UK. Featuring works from the 13th to the 20th century, it is a
near-perfect gathering of some of the most influential artists of the previous
millennium. The collection is made up of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture.
Amongst the artists represented are Botticelli, Rubens, Rembrandt, Turner, Delacroix,
Whistler, Degas, Monet, van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse and Magritte.

MILLENNIUM POINT
Millennium Point opened on 29th September 2001. It is England’s largest landmark
Millennium Project outside London and, since opening, has welcomed more than
1 million people through its doors every year.
CADBURY WORLD
The Cadbury family and the Cadbury business originated from Bournville,
Birmingham. The first factory was built here and it is still in operation today. You can
visit Cadbury World, which is literally a five-minute walk from Bournville train station,
and learn about the origins of Cadbury’s Chocolate whilst having a few tasters along
the way.
