What is a Model United Nations ?
• Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN multilateral organs, which catapult students into the world of diplomacy and negotiation.

What is the role of the student?
• In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors of UN member states, fromAfghanistan to Zimbabwe to debate on current pressing issues on the Organization's vast agendas.

• The students, better known as ‘delegates’ in Model UN, prepare draft resolutions, plot strategies, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate through the UN's rules of procedure; all in the interest of attaining International cooperation to resolve problems that affect almost every country in the World.

Who is a delegate?
• FYI - A delegate is someone who speaks or acts on behalf of an organization at a meeting or conference between organizations of the same level. In this case the delegate’s government.

• Before playing out their ambassadorial roles in a Model UN, students do extensive research on the particular agendas to be addressed. The problems are drawn from today's headlines.

A POI is raised when a delegate has a question or a comment to deliver.

•Point of Order: A Point of Order is raised
when a delegate finds a factual inaccuracy or a foreign policy violation made in one’s speech.

• Point of Parliamentary Inquiry: This is raised solely to the executive board to clarify procedural enquiries in between session, but not interrupting a speaker.

• Point of Personal Privilege:
To raise a question of privilege is a privileged motion that permits a request related to personal privileges of the individual delegate.

•Moderated caucus: This Caucus is a form of formal
debate or a motion which is raised on the call of the EB to discuss issues related to the agenda raised by the delegates on spot in the committee. PSBBMS - GBKM - MUN

•Un-moderated caucus: This is a motion where the
committee breaks into temporary informal session forming either separate blocs or collaborating to draft a unanimous resolution.

Foreign Policy Statement (Position Paper)
• Many conferences require that each delegation submit a position paper, a Foreign Policy Statement (FPS)detailing your country's policies on the topics being discussed in your committee. Writing a position paper will help you organize your ideas so that you can share your country's position with the rest of the committee. It requires extensive research from valid sources – preferably UN websites or Internationally accepted news websites (BBC etc).An FPS is required to be written in a crisp and concise manner.

Western)• Clarity in both speech and thought is expected.• Acknowledging the presence of the Chairs and other EB
Members during committee sessions is mandatory.• No using phones during committee session. In case of an
inevitable circumstances, the delegates must duly seek permission from the respective Chairs .
• Internet Usage is STRICTLY Prohibited inside committee.• The usage of personal pronouns is strictly prohibited during
committee. One’s diplomacy should never fail to be maintained.
