The word Epiphany means manifestation or appearance. It is derived from a Greekverb meaning "to appear." In classical Greek, the word was used most commonly todescribe an appearance of a deity to a worshiper. Epiphany is about recognizingsuch divine appearances. The Day of Epiphany is January 6th although mostcongregations celebrate on the nearest Sunday. The Season of Epiphany continuesfrom January 6th though the beginning of Lent, this year, February 14th. Leader: When the hungry who have nothing share with strangers;

People: When the thirsty give such water as they have;

Leader: When in weakness, we lend strength to one another;

People: God goes with us on the pathways of our lives.

Leader: When the suffering find their comfort in our blessing;

People: When despair is turned to hope, radiant and bright;

Leader: When all hating melts in embers of our loving;

People: God goes with us on the pathways of our lives.

Leader: When true goodness makes each home a hallowed shelter;

People: When our warfare yields to peace, and earth is blest;

Leader: When we find Christ’s human face in every neighbor;

People: God goes with us on the pathways of our lives.

Faith Sharing with Families

All children are invited to remain in the sanctuary on Communion Sundays. Children four and younger may choose to attend a preschool class.

Classes for all aged children will resume next week.

*Call to Confession & Unison Confession

God of All Glory,

We forget O Lord. We forget that all we have is a gift from you. Yes, we

work hard. Yes, we share with others. Yes, we are grateful. And yet O

Lord, we confess that our work is prideful, that our sharing is limited, that

our gratitude is deeply mingled with our pride.

(Continued next page.)

Forgive us O Lord. Forgive us for mingling our worship with cultural

expectations. Forgive us for letting the glitter of life dull your call to

discipleship. Forgive us and help us to refocus our lives upon you and your

hopes for us . . . .

Hymn of Preparation Come, Share the Lord Hymnal #696

Invitation to the TablePrayer of Thanksgiving & Lord's Prayer (found on the inside back cover of hymnal)

Words of Institution 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

All who seek a relationship with Christ are invited to come forward to share this spiritual feast. In preparation, ask God to open your heart to those actions which, through the work of the HolySpirit, will deepen your intimacy with Christ. Please take a piece of bread from the plate and dip itinto the cup, partaking immediately. The cup contains unfermented grape juice.

Coming to the Table and Receiving God’s Grace

An appropriate response to the Elder’s words as you receive the elements is "Amen" whichmeans, "Let it be so." Using a common loaf and cup symbolizes our unity in Christ. If comingforward is difficult, you will have the opportunity to be served in the pew. All ages are invited tothe table, for none of us fully understand this gift of spiritual nourishment that we have beengiven. The Pastor will be available at the antique communion table near the door for those whowish a personal moment of prayer in addition to or in place of the elements.

Communion Prayer (sung) Go, Share the Lord (M. Williams, 2018) Hymnal #706

And now as one in Jesus name,

Into the world we go no longer quite the same.

For nourished by God’s love, we hear the call above,

“Go share the bread, go share the wine, go share the Lord.”

Receiving God's Tithes & Our Gifts

As did the first century church, we receive an offering as a part of our communion

celebration. The offering is not returned to the front of the sanctuary, but is immediately

sent from our gathering, symbolizing its use beyond church walls.
