• To become the number one surgical department

• To have multidisciplinary, multi-institutional and
International collaboration in the field of bio-
medical research and innovation.
• To train the Post-graduate students skills of
Laparoscopic Surgery and Gastro-intestinal
Endoscopy.
• To train Under-graduates and Post-graduates the‘Skills of resuscitation’ and ‘traumamanagement’.
• To carry out ‘Clinical research’ in the fields ofcancer, tuberculosis and other surgical disorders.
• To conduct Workshops, CMEs and Conferencesand encourage participation of post-graduatesand faculty members.

History:
Department of Surgery was established in 1964.
Office of the department was in General Education
Centre, it was shifted to Physics Department in 1965.
Clinical teaching was started at Malkhan Singh Distt.
Hospital and OPD at University Health Centre.
Operations were carried out at Tibbiya College.
The department shifted to present building in 1969.
