SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 THE 26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 3
From Pastor Fr. George Koeune
Not Vaccinated
A parishioner has asked me why it is that some priests, deacons, religious, and laity have not been vaccinated. While I do not claim to know all the reasons, I can give my opinion as to what I believe is the biggest stumbling block.
All Covid Vaccines have been developed using fetal-line research. This is a scientific fact. However, we must understand what this means. Fetal-line research is done by culturing fetal cells in such a way that they continue growing and multiplying in laboratory dishes. Now, I am not saying that vaccines contain fetal tissue, what I am saying is that they are linked to an unborn baby who provided the initial cell lines. The baby, of course, died in the process. I believe this is the moral objection that some people have about the vaccine. The Vatican has commented on this issue back on December 21, 2020. For the sake of clarity, I am enclosing this statement. (Vatican Statement) It is licit to use Covid 19 vaccine if no reasonable alternative exists and that the licit use of such vaccines does not and should not in any way imply that there is a moral endorsement of the use of cell lines proceeding from aborted fetuses. Both pharmaceutical companies and governmental health agencies are therefore encouraged to produce, approve, distribute and offer acceptable vaccines that do not create problems of conscience for either Health care providers or the people to be vaccinated.
The Vatican acknowledges that a problem of conscience can arise because of the link between fetal-line research and the Covid vaccine. This (in my opinion) is the reason many people choose not to get vaccinated. However, since there is no other vaccine available, there is no sin attached to anyone who has gotten vaccinated. The Pope, and the church support vaccination.
It all comes down to following your conscience. I believe it must remain a personal choice. Bishop John Stowe from Lexington Kentucky recently embarrassed his priest and deacon at a Mass and made them tell the parishioners that they were not vaccinated. I believe the Bishop acted poorly by publicly humiliating his priest and deacon. I also believe he broke the law. A person is not obligated to share medical information with anyone besides his/her doctor. It is my hope that pharmaceutical companies will produce an acceptable vaccine in the future for those who have a moral problem with fetal-line research. As Catholics, we must care for all people, and that care must start with those who are unborn who cannot speak for themselves. Yours in Christ, Fr. George Koeune

Sacramental Policies
In accordance with the policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago it is required that all children have a minimum of two continuous years of preparation before receiving a sacrament. Here at Our Lady Of The Lakes, that means those seeking Reconciliation and First Communion are asked to attend both First and Second Grade classes in either our school or religious education programs. Those seeking Confirmation are likewise asked to attend both seventh and eighth grade before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. For more details, please call the Religious Education office at 847-587-2301.
Saint Bede Tuition Assistance Program
Each dollar that is donated to the Saint Bede Tuition Assistance Program is only used for that purpose. That money is awarded to families who qualify for partial scholarships through a formal application process. This makes it financially possible for talented young people of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish to attend Saint Bede School.

During these difficult times, we appreciate those who have mailed in your church contributions, or
contribute through GiveCentral, our electronic giving platform.
As Mother Angelica, foundress of EWTN, used to say,
“Please don’t forget to keep us between your gas and electric bill.”
If you are interested in Electronic Giving, please contact Mike
Hogan at 847-587-2251, or [email protected] or follow the directions below...
We invite our parishioners to utilize our e-giving system which can be accessed at www.givecentral.org. Once at the site, on the upper right side is a button that reads, “Find your Charity,” please press and a search box will appear in the center of the page. Please type in St. Bede Ingleside or St. Peter Antioch, as either option will enable you to donate to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish. It will bring you to another page which lists a couple of areas of need, please click on your choice and it will step you through the process of donating. There are options to do a one-time payment or to set up a series of donations. We hope you can help with a one-time gift, but also hope you see the benefit of setting up a series of automatic donations. Many of our parishioners use Give Central because the predictable nature of the donations helps in managing their household budgets. You may use a credit card or bank account. If you opt for an ongoing donation, you do have an option to modify it by accessing the Give Central site. I hope you can help, as we rely on the weekly collections to match the operating expenses the parish faces each week. Thank you.
