John Cochran VAMC Jefferson Barracks VAMC Welcome to the VA St. Louis Health Care System The Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)/ Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)/ Operation New Dawn (OND) Transition Care Management Program addresses the needs of Service Members and Veterans as they return from combat deployment and transition from the DoD health care system to the VA Health care System. We are committed to assisting service member’s as they transition from active duty military health care to VA health care. The VA provides combat veterans with free dental for 180 days post discharge from a deployment area. If dental care was given 3 months prior to being demobilized then this does not apply. The VA provides combat veterans with free health care for conditions potentially related to their combat service for up to five years following their separation from active duty. At the end of the five-year period, veterans will retain enrollment eligibility. Co-pay status will be determined based on individual circumstances. Current and former members of the Reserves or National Guard who were called to active duty by a federal order and completed the full period for which they were called or ordered to active duty may be eligible as well. Enrollment New to the VA? 1st - Take your most recent DD- 214 to the JC or JB Eligibility Office and enroll for care. 2nd - Request a Primary Care Physician (PCP) appointment. Online Enrollment - You can enroll online at the VA site: www.va.gov. Click on the “Health” icon. Next, click “Apply for Health Benefits."
