WELCOME

Welcome to BA (Hons) Textiles for Fashion& Interiors. In this pack you will find all theinformation you need to help you settle in to yourstudies at UCA Farnham this September.

During your time on the BA (Hons) Textiles forFashion & Interiors course, visual research and visual inspiration will be very important in the development of your textile work.

Have fun and be creative!

The first year will be an introduction to the essentialdesign and technical skills/knowledge needed toestablish critical practice and study during yourtime here. You will develop core knowledge and understanding of both print and weave, which enables you to make an informed specialism application.

VISITS

During the course you will be expected to travelto exhibitions related to your projects.

You will be given further information regarding these visits during your unit briefing sessions.

EQUIPMENT LIST

On Monday 14th September please come equippedwith the following:

-General drawing and painting materials / cartridgepaper /sketchbook*.-An academic diary/ notebook.-Two passport-sized photographs of yourself. Thephotos can be cropped images of you from anormal photo as long as you can see your faceclearly.

In the week beginning Monday 21st September youwill need the following:

-Overall (Lab Coat) with full-length sleeves (wehave some lab coats for you to borrow).-Enclosed and fairly sturdy shoes. (Pumps, flipflops,sandals, high heels, etc are not permitted).-3 Teaspoons, 6 Tablespoons (Stainless Steel).-Scissors: a small pair for Weave; a large pair forPrint.-150mm Plastic Ruler (metric / imperial).-General drawing and painting materials /A1 sheetsof cartridge paper.*-Sellotape, Masking Tape & Stapler.-Craft Knife or Scalpel and a Rotary Cutter for Print.

*Note: General Art & Design materials can beobtained from the Campus Art Shop.

The following items will need to be purchasedfrom the Textile Store during the Autumn Term:

-Cloth and Yarn (this will be needed throughout the course and will vary depending on each project)

COURSE COSTSCOLOUR

During your summer holiday, keep your creative mind active by recording your environment using a range of coloured materials.

To do this, you can use:-Your camera-Your sketchbook-Pencils, pens, paints etc.

You will be expected to budget for a range of materials throughout the duration of this course.

When you come to campus to attend class, please bring your drawing equipment, sketchbook, camera and laptop/ipad/other smart device if you have one.

You will need to purchase the following TextilesSpecialist Kit when required in the first year:

-Elbow Length Rubber Gauntlets £1.50-Tripour Beakers (1lt, 400ml & 250ml) £2.50-2 x 1.5m metre Backing Cloths £7.50-Storage pots for print paste approx £2.00-2 x Pairs Bootlaces (White) £4.00 (£2.00 a pair)-Screen mesh £4.00

Total £ 19.50
